Lovecraft is loved in many cultures. The Japanese were introduced to him when they still had an empire even! Their interpretations of him are also very accurate. They get him and what he was about. There is a 4 book series by Ken Asamatsu (the editor). Shouldn't be hard to google. All Japanese original mythos tales. Worth a look my friend. And on a side note, have you seen my Spanish Lovecraft book video? The Spaniards seem to love and respect the mythos too.

@@joelsewlal9480 Hello Joel! I have read a few Ligotti anthologies, so allow me to give you some advice. Ligotti’s works are unrelentingly fatalistic and nihilistic, the man is very depressed. His prose is very grim and surreal. Compared to Lovecraft, there is little worldbuilding or alien species or conventional cosmic tropes. Think of his stories like Stephen King, stand-alone stories where the world itself is evil, without King’s signature saccharine endings. If you have the strength of will to read such bleak works, take the plunge into the abyss, and hopefully you will be able to climb back up to look back down...

What gets me about a good Lovecraft visual adaptation is that the man himself had a fondness for good and effective illustrations to Weird fiction. I've read many letters where he spends the best part of a paragraph praising or evoking the art styles of people like Aubrey Beardsley, (a favourite of his), Sidney Sime, Harry Clarke (who illustrated one of the best Poe collections) Clark Ashton Smith's paintings and sketches, Rops and Doré, and others! When the right artist was found for the right story, Lovecraft was the first to sing its praises.
@ArkhamReporter
4 жыл бұрын
Oh yes. He name drops artists regularly Sime. Dore. Goya. CAS was an artist of course but dare I be so cheeky to say putting him next to Goya is too generous? Nonetheless the art of CAS is his own, very original, like he didn't give a damn and did it for himself. This is highly respectable.
@warlockofwordsreturnsrb4358
4 жыл бұрын
@@ArkhamReporter I know what you mean, and naturally, so did Lovecraft. I think in art circles they describe that kind of basic linework as 'primitive', Lovecraft phrased it as CAS not "attempting the sophistication" of artists like Doré or Clarke, he just appreciated the simpler forms of Smith for what they were. But it's great that HPL and CAS had quite a range to the kind of weird art they liked.

Gou Tanabe has also adapted to manga other tales of the Mythos, you can see the love he has to the original work of Lovecraft on every page he draws and i would like to see more people showing their respect to the mythos the same way he does, instead all we can see is people using Lovecraft works to push agendas or to make a quick money grab is really frustrating.

Hi Salmen. Yes, it's definitely frustrating especially when modern politics is drawn into the situation (like with Lovecraft Country). Tanabe truly did good work and his heart is in the right place. I had to even bring in race to this comment but Tanabe isn't white yet so many progressive critics think HPL is for whites only and that people of other races must automatically hate HPL for his views. It's a horrible idea. The Mythos is for anyone who can understand and comprehend what HPL was aiming to explain about humanity (all races and peoples).

Gou Tanabe so far has done Call of Cthulhu the Anthology, Mountains of Madness, Haunter of Dark, Colour out of Space and The Shadow of Insmouth. The dude is great and I hope he does the rest as well. Since Lovecraft had a descriptive view of these fantastic landscpaes and monsters, that kind of thing needs to be shown in an uncompressed style of storytelling in manga which is why the length is so much for people who don't read manga but for the average manga reader, Tanabe's adaptations are exactly the sweet spot needed to convey all the necessary dialogue(and sometimes a description of the events in text boxes) while showing with just art all those things Lovecraft wrote about, the the way the Colour distorts and how the Blasted Heath looks for example.

These books are definitely something I'm considering picking up. Very tastefully done and great art from the looks of it. Edit: You might be able to purchase the other book via the Amazon website from another country. For example I live in the Netherlands and order from Amazon Germany all the time. Ironically it's faster and cheaper for me.

Oh, that works? I tried picking up a laptop via this method, it was a headache. I gave up. Plus the language issue. German I can read but prefer to read in English or Spanish. Maybe Amazon Spain. Anyway, in total its like €34 and free shipping with those links I gave. I can say I've never had a complaint from someone about something I've recommended not being good enough.

@@ArkhamReporter Yup, just gotta change the country setting and the language option you can leave at English. When you search there's a filter to only show English books. Lol I believe that, you were the person who introduced me to Lovecraft.

There is no amazon in Switzerland ?!?!!?!!?
@ArkhamReporter

No. We have Zalando and Digitec and Brack. Not quite the equivalent in prowess. However I did successfully manage to buy a few books off Amazon now but many items say that shipping to Switzerland isn't possible. Books are coming from Germany where I assume they are easier to manage and print on demand.

Yes, The Hound. I've reviewed it. Check out this video's description to see that review. And Junji Ito, I've reviewed his iconic work UZUMAKI on this channel. It's 5 star, flawless.

I've been trying to contact you about my upcoming dark lovecraftian comic which is drawn by Horacio Lalia who has drawn lovecrafts work in the past. I am hoping you could give an interview to promote my comic and I do have a pre production comic trailer you could take a look at.

@ArkhamReporter

No, the books in this review are simply 2 volumes. Only 2 books. Tanabe did create other books though but those are adaptations of other HPL tales.

Baranger over these ?
@ArkhamReporter
3 жыл бұрын
Eh.... yes and no. Yes, the art in Baranger is perfect. No, because this is a different art style... apples and oranges you know? Tanabe is just as good as Baranger in his efforts. He also had the extra labour of recreating every scene plus adapting the text into speech whereas Baranger had the luxury of just hitting copy/paste.

Are you going to cover "On the Creation of" or the essay HP wrote in favor of Hitler's "final solution"? Just curious since he's your hero. Do you cover everything or just the things that make him look good?
@HiDesert004

You are full of shit as HPL didn’t write anything about the final solution no one knew of it then.
