Thank you SO much for this video. I was trying to learn more about antisocial personality disorder & all I ever see or hear is that they’re basically just heartless people that manipulate & hurt everyone in their path and can never change or improve upon their behavior. I know someone with ASPD & I was pretty scared when they told me & that was all that I could find anyone saying about the disorder. They’ve definitely done some very hurtful & manipulate things but I’ve also seen them do and say some genuinely really nice things & go out of their way to help people when they didn’t have to. They are human. And the way you explain it as seeing the world as out to get them makes sense in a way I never thought about before. It makes sense that when you’ve been through a certain amount of trauma & poor relationships you would see the world that way and not feel as much remorse for hurting others. I wish we had better treatment for the disorder but I’m sure we will with time.

Although I’m not officially diagnosed with aspd, but seeing many with a diagnosis in the comments section makes me feel like I can relate. Honestly, I can’t tell anyone about my inside thoughts (which I call my dark self). I honestly don’t have a deep sense of what I think is empathy. Sure I understand what it should feel like but I don’t have it in me to start crying, even if someone starts crying over a death of another. I can only fake these feelings just so I don’t seem cold to the person I’m talking to. But on the inside Im thinking “why are you being so emotional” or “I think this is over doing it now”. However i truly love my family, but only in my little circle of trusted people. I value loyalty above all. And that’s how I think about the people I truly love. Are they loyal to me and can I trust them? There’s so many reasons I think I have aspd but the only reason I don’t want to get it tested is because incase it could get me into more trouble. I know how the world would perceive me if they knew. Like it could affect judgment if I got into some kind of trouble in the future. Not that I’m hoping/ looking to commit any crimes or hurt anyone.

@@strnglhld I'd say ASPD is generally worse since people with that diagnosis are more likely to be physically/verbally aggressive compared to people with NPD. Both disorders are based on an antagonistic disposition towards others, but ASPD also has a disinhibited component, which means more angry outbursts and other impulsive, potentially dangerous behavior. The two disorders have many similarities though (e.g., lack of empathy, interpersonally exploitative), and it's not far-fetched for someone to be diagnosed with both. My point is, I would not get into any kind of relationship with someone who has traits of either.

I have borderline personality disorder and today I was just talking about this. Because we have lessened empathy being borderline as well. I think that it is a form of narcissistic suppression that dominates what is societally acceptable to what people can and can't say or can and can't feel. Just because I want to laugh if somebody talks about a death or I don't care does not mean that I'm heartless. It means I simply don't have enough empathy to go around for more than my inner circle. And I shouldn't be expected to care because I don't and it's not my fault. What I can control is not outwardly laughing about it or saying that to people that might hurt them. My idea is that people don't like to hear that impulses don't define us but our decisions do. Because it means that they have to now be responsible for their own decisions instead of hating on those who never decided to be this way. Basically it's a way to scapegoat people who actually have a heart, but it's just not what everyone else is used to.

We are completely misunderstood and all automatically capable of murder. You just are a more logical rational thinker and avoid or block out emotions completely and it’s easy to do at the snap of a finger and remain in this state for hours or even days. You view the world outside of home as a a hostile environment and it doesn’t help when home is, or was, a hostile environment, so all you really know is hostility and there no other way to make it besides being unemotional. Living like this throughout childhood and into adulthood makes it hard to live any other way because this way of being had always worked in our favor and always does. ANKA. Well said and well explained but unfortunately you do have the first part wrong, which is not unusual for people with initials AJS because it's been scientifically realised that you it hard to relate to people in full, when you state that you are completely misunderstood, you've obviously based that on your own vicinity IE your parents or rest of family or friends, but worldwide that is not the truth at all, there are many billions of people who understand and others who are finding out and trying to realise it day by day. And using that phrase that we are all automatically capable of murder is totally irrelevant, it's as if you are saying that all people with antisocial personality disorder (as it's called, although by the fact that my psychologist I don't use disorders like that I just use descriptive singular words), are capable of that rather than anybody else and the fact that everybody is capable of murder - as you said - with that phrase you need to ask yourself what percentage of people do actually murder? it shouldn't be used at all. And very last of all it is actually treatable, it's not a quick fix but it's most definitely with A very good therapist, preferably psychologist, so don't give up hope but you will only be fixed if you want to be....

This video helped me out a ton. I was diagnosed when I was in college, on partial scholarship to play Football. I wasn’t fully paying attention when I was first diagnosed, since I was sent in against my will, but it lingered in my thoughts sometimes. I always just focused on athletics and school, but I sold drugs and robbed people to pay for rent and food. It was how my parents and older brother got by, so I did the same. Still do, when I run out of cash.

Sociopaths do not give a FUCK about the rights of others, also they have major impulse control issues and will gladly do whatever they want because they are prone to boredom and boredom makes them liable to commit offences, maybe not illegal offences but social offences. Stop treating it like it's a mere illness cause it's not. They would just make them view you as weak and easy to manipulate. Stop defending people who could care less about your rights or well-being. I'm exploring this concept (and others) as I am actively striving to better understand and resolve my many personal issues. Concerning this topic, in this video the diagnosis generally seems to be defined as (in accordance with its name) being "anti," and from what I gather, the consensus is that this 'diagnosis' aligns with more of an ACTIVE/CONSCIOUS state or stance of opposition to social/cultural norms/qualifiers/traditions/values/etc. (please correct me if I'm wrong, I honestly prefer that scenario). I'm interested in these details as (since being introduced to the term/concept) I identify AS anomie and as such, related diagnoses and designations (the good, the bad and esp. the aloof/unclassifiable) intrigue me. I am one, living in a word of many that seemingly reject or are commonly offput by the mere notion of ANYTHING falling into the ("would/should be,") MAJOR "category" of "other". For me, the "illusion" of safety was annihilated in utero and harboring a WEALTH of resistances is more the case than any "fixation" with control or some power struggle (again, I'm striving to understand rather than proclaiming anything; I acknowledge that my perspectives are warped, but sadly that fact doesn't make the feelings that accompany them any less real or palpable . . . At least not yet) Also, I'd love to hear your impressions on assimilation and cultural variations (overall and in relation to this subject). Asking a lot, I know, but any feedback/input would be appreciated.

What I also saw (with 25 years working in Psychiatry) is that many people with ASPD also acted very stupid when they were in midst of possible trouble. One of them told me, with kind of pride, she had sold drugs to a delaer and patiënts at the hospital and kept a weed-plantage at her appartment to pay for her morgage. This was not a patiënt but a nurse I had befriended for some years. I was shocked. Her total blindness about what she just told me confused me a lot. This meant the end of our 6 year friendship I realized and I had to report her for I worked in the same hospital. I couldn't cope ofcourse with someone dealing and selling drugs (and growing it herself). Her stupid, proud honesty resulted in ending our friendship and her career in psychiatry. I've seen it many times more with ASPD-patiënts. Their often clever fabricated deciets and shemes they give away to someone they trust and like to impress. Asif they are proud in decieving people and taking advantage of them. Their Narcissism gives them away. But these are the more stupid ones I guess. Most go undetected or not confronted. I'm glad I removed her skillfully out of the psychiatric field. She was quite smart but also very stupid when she finally let her guard down to me believing she controlled me anyway. I think this also a give-away trait to ASPD. Their extreme anti-social/narcissistic traits show up sooner or later. And their pride cann't help them to cover their 'succes' anymore. Just stupid but typically ASPD imo. Read Hervey Cleckly. He has a dozen of examples which exactly discribe the core of ASPD behaviour.

I think most laymen people think anti social is acting shy and not wanting to be around people which i always thought that’s what it meant , my ex was diagnosed with this disorder and Opposional Defiance Disorder , anti social. As well as intermittent explosive anger in his teen age years up to early and mid 20s , I thought he outgrew them mostly hes in his mid 30s and we met 4 years ago when he was 32 , but after my research I believe there is residue and some spectrum on what level i have no idea but he is high functioning for sure But i have witnessed him breaking down a door and hid in fear and the police were called and i was told by him that a year before he met me he pulled out a gun in a road rage incident with his child in the car and one time when we argued he pulled out a gun and cleaned it in front of me . Never once had he touched me but need less to say i was in fear , i grew up with an abusive father so this is why i accepted it and although I’m old enough to know better and feel ashamed for not leaving i accepted it and tried to help . It’s only now that I’m grasping after our breakup and these videos have helped me make sense of his thinking and behaviors as well as his past . When he divulged his past I think I failed to really grasp how serious it was . I thought it was a phase from his past because he was a successful business man and very charming and passionate and obviously dysfunctional myself i didn’t protect myself . God I feel naive and stupid , the scary thing is I still love him . I’m just as sick 😢😢😢

Dear Truth seeker, I'm really glad that this video helped you make sense of your experience. Remember, there is no sight like hindsight. If your ex was truly antisocial (and it sounds like it), one significant feature of the disorder is that he will hide his true character, gaslight people around him, and that he will be skilled at both, which means that you are not stupid. In my opinion, it's not sick to love someone. I so hope that you find the love and friendship that you deserve in your life. Best thoughts, Morten

So, one needs to be affable and amenable to allowing others to have their own way within their lives to be considered "social?" One must conform to everything in order to be "emotionally healthy?" It seems that the ones who define such labels and terms almost invariably tend to not share the same end goals for their own "emotional health." By that I mean, it seems that those who wield power in our society (including medical "authorities") tend to have no regard for anyone but themselves and their own ends, and then label anyone willing to stand up for themselves, i.e. those not amenable to being controlled by those same people, as "antisocial" or abhorrent. Must be nice to attain the level where crime, lies, and manipulation have no consequences aside from a pay raise and an attaboy. But let one of the plebs try and attain self-determination and initiative, and they are immediately labeled an extremist or antisocial. Is it possible that the world is a battlefield, and that those who embrace that reality and actually achieve at a high level because of their acceptance of that reality also try and convince you to be (and raise) ineffectual dipshits worried about how many friends they have? Could it be?

I find that people with limited vocabulary (not foreigners) also have low empathy. (Foreigners go though a poor logic phase before they acquire local language) They have limited labels/descriptors to enable adequate comprehension of human interactions. They regard the acquisition of an extended vocabulary as pretentious - 'acting above one's station' They get along better with inanimate objects, protocols and animals and people who agree with EVERYTHING they say and do. They are emotional toddlers. They become frustruted quickly - which then turns to assertion - which in turn becomes aggressive/violent. Other people note this and rather than cause a fuss fall into step with them. They are loud talkers, because loudness = 'honesty. I seriously believe that i have PTSD/Hypervigilance from a life of working alongside them.

Yeah that's my take. My brother had a friend in his teenage years, and looking back they were quite similar. My brother now hates this guy, but the other guy still wants to be friends with him. My brother's ex friend is who had all the control in the relationship, so now it makes complete sense that it's a one way fall off.

They seem to despise seeing the ‘projected’ weaknesses the mirroring can show. I have seen this reaction in person and it’s almost comical because you stand there thinking-wow, you hate this person but they are exactly like you. But I took it as, they cannot tolerate anyone else taking a stage spotlight so they project all of their disgust, onto the person who reflects them to justify eliminating them. **I say this because what I witnessed was the person trying to get everyone else on board with hating the person who acted just like them-they just could not tolerate it-the disgust was overt.

That definitely is the case for some people, I personally despise narcissists. They require other people's admiration to feel fufilled. To me, other peoples thoughts and opinions are generally worthless and irrelevant. Weak pathetic disgusting creatures they are, and they are easily manipulated by playing on their false sense of self worth.

I loved Beckett's quote in the movie Solo. 'Always believe that everyone will betray you and you will never be disappointed' or something to that effect. Perhaps I suffer from a type of paranoia, but I have arrived at the conclusion that people, if they are not making a game out of dangling you on a string, letting you down and teasing you (because that gives them a sense of POWER over someone), then they are going to steal from you, cheat you, slander you, use you and do you dirty, or they are plotting to do something much worse to you, no limits. Then when YOU need something, they work diligently to avoid you. That's what people do, that's what people are. Someone prove me wrong PLEASE...I don't like being right about this. Refer to Jerimiah 9:4-6. Far be it for me to quote from the bible. I have grown disillusioned with church and religion. It's all a very mediocre act of love, repentance and self righteous hypocrisy, but that biblical text pretty much says it all, that goes for church folk (at every level) and family members. Hence the old adage 'with friends like that who needs enemies?'

i think you’re paranoid. i don’t know you and can only judge based on this comment, but based on “if people aren’t making a game of you ect… then they are going to steal from you ect” i would say you are. this mindset only isolates yourself from people, and based on my personal experience, brings you down to a level where you will only ever be surrounded by those people you described. because yes, people like that do exist, but so many people genuinely want to do good and maybe they can’t always properly express or act on those good intentions, but that is a learning curve intrinsic to human nature. you have to trust that they mean well, and if they give you a reason that they don’t, or they cross a boundary of yours, or hurt your feelings - then it is up to you to decide if you would like to attempt to repair that trust/boundary/reconcile your feelings. you don’t have to, but it’s import to realise other people aren’t robots and aren’t going to be perfect all the time, just as you aren’t. that doesn’t mean you have to put up with horrible behaviour from other people, because no one deserves to, but reducing someone to one action in their lifetime (again, context of the action matters) when every single day we are growing and learning and changing -or at the very least capable of doing so- then why not try forgive. i’m sure you’ve hurt people in your life, and i assume at-least one of them have forgiven you, so allow yourself the forgiveness you deserve and extend that to other people. build your boundaries, know when people cross them, be able to decide if you should forgive them or if they don’t deserve it, and learn to TRUST. that’s all it comes down to at the end of the day, nothing in this world is guaranteed and we only spend a limited amount of time with a limited amount of people on this earth, so we have to trust that the people we keep in our lives mean well until they prove us wrong, and if they do, you go from there.

ill also quickly add, religion is a survival mechanism to us. i’m not going to argue if they are real or hold any truth, but in day-to-day life it is used as a technique to understand, process, interact with and survive in the world around us. a lot of their actions may very well be righteousness, mediocre acts of love and repentance, but they are committed by people trying to cope and understand the world they live in. you don’t have to tolerate them or even understand them, but i think it helps knowing that while they may be righteous, insincere, or shallow, they are trying to survive in a world they may not fully understand or feel at peace in. just as you have turned to (imo) paranoia in order to deal with those around you, they turn to religion to do the same.

Unfortunately, that seems to be the case. It's a futile effort to build an "inner circle". People will suck out everything they need from you and forget that you even existed. And, of course, if you try to ask them a favour, there will be numerous false excuses why they just can't spare the effort

Is ASPD born or developed?. I don't think I was ever born "weird" or "different", mine would definitely be purely developed in this lifetime. I already know I 120% have BPD, but always feel like I may also have ASPD so am quite confused if I have aspd or not. I do feel empathy, but I also really hate humanity at the same time. Opinions/help from certified people only pls thanks. And don't tell me to find a therapist, I don't feel comfortable going.

ASPD can be both genetic and environmental often those with psychopathy based ASPD have the gene and where born with it (as in lack to no emotional empathy and remorse they can still have cognitive empathy however) due to parents or grandparents and environment situations cause the traits and symptoms to worsen for not being understood by family and settings like school. Not being understood creates these things to become unmanageable and unhealthy like turning to way to coup and if in an abusive situation can cause even worse couping skills from self harm to drug use or unprotected sex. I believe if the world stopped demonizing us and just viewed us as someone who needs guidance and help there would be a lot less stigma of us being "dangerous" and more normalized thus allowing us to learn to fit into a society that accepted our differences from trauma or genetics or both. Of course hollywood needs their murder troops tho so we will forever been seen has evil fucking freaks instead of someone needed to heal from trauma. (I'm not a "psychopath" just someone who struggles with ASPD)
