in this letter from Audacity... kzitem.info/news/bejne/q2ObmayMjqFim3o ... they say they are not a "probrew" but a "premium retro game publishing company" ... but I get what you are saying homebrew is that guy that spends a couple of weeks on a game mostly as a challenge to himself... probrew is something that is commercially published and more focused on gameplay. Good video, the audio was just a little quiet.

The term was thrown out a few places - interviews, blogs, etc. I don't remember all the places. So folks just started discussing. Thanks for the comments and I'll work on that audio level!

Yeah, they even told us they did not like the term in an interview on our podcast...which was a bit uncomfortable because we coined it year before.

If Audacity never said the term probrew then it would seem that the point of this video is largely negated, especially in light of the fact that, not only didn’t they coin the term, they don’t even LIKE the term. Merely calling themselves a premium retro game publishing company isn’t remotely the same as trying to differentiate their product from others as a “probrew” vs “homebrew”; in other words, a manufactured controversy, or as the Bard says, much ado about nothing.

@@WaverBoy You're right. It's just a term that started popping up since the announcement and it caused some discussion. My point is exactly yours. Much ado.

@@HippoBytes I thought your point was that they had called themselves that, and that it was a silly thing to do because it’s not really different from any other homebrews.

Excellent video, and excellent topic! Up until now I had been using the term retro release for professionally made games like Circus Convoy. I'll switch to using your term probrew from here on out.

Hey thanks! ... Well, Audacity coined "Pro Brew"... I just say professional release and I think that includes Atari Age releases too. Homebrew is just an arbitrary term that was endearing to us until a new term was thrown in the mix.

Very good point! Buying Homebrews or Probrews or whatever is about supporting the community! Nobody get rich today by making Atari 2600 games.

Enjoyed the video! I think it’s great they are still making games for the Atari today! It’s not always about the graphics as it is gameplay! I enjoy purchasing home brews there just as good as the ones back in the day!

Honestly back then half the games weren't licensed anyways. That wasn't really a thing until Nintendo so if it seems professional it is imo
