The PlayStation Era of Atari is one of my favorites of the company. Nothing beats the Golden Age of the 2600, but it was fun to see these games run with the big boys on the PS-X and be advertised on Monday Night Raw! It didn't really work out, but I won't forget it!

I've heard the dev team for original atari was terrible! They often got sh*t on for no reason by the hard drug junky owners. They were creating sweat shop style atmosphere while turning the biggest profits. They made it illegal for any dev to put their name in the credits. This is where some led to sneak it in. I think this is where the early dev teams constantly snuck in things about their teams. Either to prove they were not sh*t heads like the atari heads or because the games they loved did this with their dev teams at atari without the company knowing lol

I know! I wish Atari would do this today! It’s the correct timeline! Instead it feels like they are lead around on a leash by a handful of “retro KZitemrs” who just want to repeat the 2600 days over and over again. Often to line their own pockets with collectibles, rather than embracing the modern day while being competitive, creative and innovative.

@@GTV-Japan agreed. Atari is at an all time low since the 80s crash. It's like these late PS1 games were made to announce that Atari is back, and then they went on to be a very solid publisher for the next decade. All they seem to do now is exploit their brand name.

Just like many I was looking forward for something new and fresh and being a young teenager at the time it didn't tick the cool box. Now they are more interesting to me than most AAA games we get. 😂 I hope this new vision of Atari works out. If not I don't think even the hardcore audience will have any faith anymore. Too many buyouts and false promises over the decades leaves a bad permanent impression. At least it's not intellivison 😅

It’s complicated. The original Atari was sold around 1976 to Warner. Then it was nearly disbanded in 1981 when their programmers went to Activision and Imagic. Then the split in 1985, by then, only a few people stayed at Atari Games. Then the reverse merger of Corporation and the merger with Midway around the time, put an end to the anything left from the Bushnell days. Considering Bushnell plays an important role in the current Atari and they’ve made efforts like no incarnation of the company before to make it a good name with their legacy, I’d say today’s Atari is the most Atari it has been since the split after the crash.

Honestly the best tracking I can do says this. “Atari” and all the games, trademarks etc with it from Atari Corp moved to hasbro and called Atari interactive. This was sold to infogrames and they later used the Atari name company wide. That became Atari SA. Sometime after Atari Interactive became Atari Inc at that point with a division inside now named interactive. SA continued using that Atari name but is doing so by a license agreement(????) but then SA was bought by Atari Inc and now Atari Inc is reviving inforgrames as a name. Possibly to spin it off completely who knows. It’s crazy and I’m probably wrong but who could follow this stuff!

You forget to mention the Atari Evolved collection on the Sony PSP. They were the first modernized remakes that were good, and the only until Wade Rosen's remake series. Not sure why you spoke of Wade with a negative tone, that dude is doing the best for Atari since they fell from grace in the 80s. Also, it was Tempest 2000 on the Jaguar. Hope that helps.

First off, Nolan wasn't necessarily forced out soon after. He remained to see Pizza Time Theatre (Chuck E Cheese) come to fruition (and would eventually buy that venture back from Atari and expand it). It was in early 1979 after an argument with an executive and some unpleasant language that Nolan was fired and quit on his own accord anyway. 2nd, you got Jack Tramiel's last name wrong. It's pronounced 'Truh-mel'

The cool thing about what you said around 8:45 is that there actually _is_ a cult interest in "low poly" 3D modeling now. It started not too long ago actually. I'm in the art community and I see a noticeable amount of indie artists rendering their 3D figures into PS1, N64, PS2, etc styles. Heck, Smiling Friends even had a character named Gwimbly who was a character from a (fictional) early 3D game and was in full low poly art style. I'm not sure if it'll catch on long term, but there's definitely a good amount of interest in the old jagged polygon look.

Great videos on GTV. Only Atari nowadays is doing a great job. They are really creating a great retro nice again and making it very lively with good games and niche hardware like the Atari 2600+ and add ons. They acquired a huge portfolio of great classic IP’s, resurrecting Infogrames and Intellivision. In my opinion they slowly are getting the foot back in the gaming industry as the to go to retro focused gaming company. Really think they do justice to the Atari brand in a modern way. If you see the good steps they are taking now bit by bit, and where they are going, I think they are really going to claim a solid niche portion in the game industry. Hurray for Atari👍
