Phenomenal walkthrough. I really like the layer graphics which made it very easy to understand when it became visual. Keep up the awesome work!

Nice video. I conceptualise the layers a bit differently. First there is the base or background layer (L0) which has the main content. Sitting on top of L0 is the upstream key layer (L1). What L1 does depends on whether Chromakey, Lumakey or a DVE (e.g. pip) is selected. L1 will always block/replace part of L0. Sitting on top of L1 is the downstream key layer (L2). L2 will always block/replace part of any of the layers below it.

I spent hours trying to figure out why my black text was disappearing with OBS projection. Thank you so much for this video! It is a huge bummer that smooth animations are nerfed.
@CreateConsumeRepeat

If you want smooth animations I would suggest the OBS method and working within the limitations or drop some coin and pick up a Hyperdeck with key and fill support.

@@CreateConsumeRepeat I am running my first show independently for an MMA promotion. I found your video when I was trying to make a clock lower-third graphic for the rounds and bring in videos occasionally. The videos are fine because I can take the direct input. It’s when I need to downstream the clock so it will continue to overlay.

Sadly, it comes down to color choice with creating graphics that work on the downstream key using this hack.

Great video, I was unsure about what an upstream keyer was and other channels never got to the point really. Just a word of advice: if you install the Downstream Keyer Plugin for OBS you can unlock that remaining 20% you were talking about with no hacks needed, if I understand what you meant correctly.

Alpha keying motion on the ATEM Mini Pro can only be done via hardware. OBS allows you to cheat to a certain extent. If you are using OBS as your software based streaming solution, then yes the plug-in you mention would work. But I like hardware based solutions. Thanks for the comment.

Raspberry pi if you have the coding skills.

Zou dont need change all your grapics in AE or PS... simply add color filter in OBS to push a little brightnes to +0.01 :) this make black "almost black" but atem stop keying this colour.

I don’t use streamlab but it’s my understanding that it works like OBS. If that’s the case I would guess it should work. But don’t quote me.

What are your thoughts on using a UltraStudio mini HD instead of a Hyperdeck? if my research is accurate, it allows you to push a fill/key sync output to its 2 SDI ports over Thunderbolt; adding that final 20% of functionality, giving you more interactive graphics (text/browser sources) and let’s you use video sources just like A Hyperdeck, but cheaper

@@CreateConsumeRepeat I would look into it if you want to use OBS on the DSK with a proper Key/Fill output, it’s the same form factor as a Hyperdeck and about $100 cheaper the the mini plus!

Uhhhh Im confused. I wanted to know the difference between upstream key and downstream key. You quickly mentioned it but went into all this other stuff.
@CreateConsumeRepeat

I would watch the video again but simply put the upstream key offers the most features and flexibility on the ATEM. It’s mostly used for keying out the background via green screen. The upstream keys on the other hand goes on top of everything so they are perfect for “bugs” but on the ATEM they are limited by comparison to the upstream. It can be a hard concept to grasp when first starting out. Adding more complexity is the addition of HyperDeck.

@@CreateConsumeRepeat Ok. 1) Re read what you wrote and edit so anyone else who reads will understand. 2) I wanted to know the difference. Watching the video by Doug Johnson he explains the Upstream key comes prior to the transition and the downstream key comes after the transition. This is the reason for different names. Otherwise we could just say the Keying function.

I like those think of it like layers. Others think of them like stencils. I would watch the animated diagram sequence to fully understand it.

This is wrong. Very wrong. USKs are on layers above the Background (PGM Source) which is why it's called Background are the Advanced Panels.

Yeah, the luma or chroma key is keying out a portions of a fill source to reveal what is underneath it, which is your background layer.

Create amazing multi layer live action broadcast effects using the upstream keyer! Layer live video over other video sources or graphics with incredible quality. You can use luma key, linear key, pattern key, or shoot against a green screen and use the Advanced Chroma key to instantly composite the video over virtual sets for mind blowing effects! - BlackmagicDesign website
