It is nice to hear Matt's description of "time" as a human construct, before he adopted the abstract physicist notion of time, which only began with the big bang. Nowadays, he insists that the concept of time "before the big bang" is a nonsensical term. However, I think every person on the planet can conceive of time before the big bang. Time is simply a man made concept to measure the interval between one event and another. Based on the latest cosmology, there were almost certainly other events before the BB, even if those events were simply from one static position to another.

Kevin's call made me happy, I'm wishing him the best and hope he calls back with either more questions or better yet as an atheist. to touch on something that was being said about some people who genuinely want to believe yet they have doubts and have asked god for a sign of guidance yet receive none, while people who barely apply themselves and claim to be true beleivers with no doubt at all, and then they talked about god not being the author of confusion yet all we see is confusion; other than the excuse the preachers use when "helping" genuinely good people with doubts that Matt has mentioned basically blaming the parishioner for not believing hard enough or having some sin that is preventing them from seeing the "truth" - which btw is a disgusting lie that poisons the mind and even self esteem of the person seeking answers - the other very common excuse for confusion and doubt I hear a lot from blind believers is SATAN! 😂 because satan is the ruler of this world blah blah SCAPEGOAT BULLSHIT blah. That type of mentality drives me crazy and I literally want to slap any fool who preaches either one of those excuses. Just like Matt said, way to show compassion to a confused believer by blaming them for the doubt they have about the nonsense lies they've been force fed since birth! 11:45 Humans can't reason without the logic of time, but there is no physical evidence of any amount of it. The future can only ever be a prediction, and the past is nothing but a memory that we experience in the present. As an Atheist I struggle with this the most because if it is true that the only physical moment that can exist is now, then all theories for describing the universe with science become moot.
@MrXeberdee
4 жыл бұрын
@Please Complete All Fields It's not a negative thing - it's moot in the sense that they are subjects for a deeper debate. I'm probably very confused about the state of the universe, but I'm not alone :) I say moot because if there is no such physical reality as time, and it is only an emergent state of consciousness, then everything that is physically explained by it and dependent on it, such as spacetime, distance, speed of light, the big bang, the age of the universe etc. all become slightly different in my mind and subjects for a deeper understanding of their true nature. Eg. what is the state of the universe 20 billion light years from here right now?. We will only ever really know this state in 20+ billions of years time when the light from there has travelled thru the space between to get to us. If there is no real time to speak of, only time created by distance in space/ energy to travel there, then that area in space must still have some current state right now - unless you think it doesn't exist. We will never really know what that state is - nor do we really know the true state, shape or size of the outer reaches of the universe. We can only guess this according to information we can see that is 14 billion years old. The edge of the universe though is currently over 40 billion light years away due to expansion AFAIK. I can't get my head round that, how the hell we can see or measure it! What we see and what we can measure, or predict, is only really a 'light picture' of a previous (closer) state that has nothing to do with the current one. The closer you get back from the CMB at the edge of the known universe, to the end of your nose, the more reliable the information you can rely on about the universe will get :) That's a big bang of consciousness right there.

In jarreds call, matt asks how the chess pawn could move without time. But it’s not hard to imagine the pawn as a sort of stretched out “elongated pawn” with one end resting on one square and the other end resting on another. This is the concept of “world lines.” The outside perspective of a 4dimensional universe would be a static, unchanging “block” where Matt can be found to be a long curving “worm” with one end in his mothers womb and the other end in his grave. The view from within this 4d universe appears to be 3dimensions of spece inwhich “things happen over time” because this is the only way to observe all four dimensions from that vantage point. It’s sometimes called “block time” and is a way of picturing the 4dimensional geometry of spacetime that Einstein’s relativity proposes. It’s sometimes difficult but “trippy” to try to grasp but i think jarred was trying to articulate something to this effect.. i understand not wanting to go down that road though because it asserts an “outside view” of this “block universe” which is only one step away from providing a place for a god to exist. For clarification i am an atheist.

Hi Oscar, by definition what you called NIRVANA is not nirvana, you have no concept of nirvana. If you read the Buddhist scripture, you'll find that nirvana is just a label for a state which you are enlightened, so nirvana = enlightenment , at this point, you are a BUDDHA or the ENLIGHTENED ONE, BUDDHA = ENLIGHTENED ONE. You are certainly not. This is the Buddhist concept. When you get there there is no reversal, it's like when you are slapped at birth and you scream and breathe you cannot unlearned that.
