I think they were better off pointing Clayton towards Deepak Chopra not Lawrence Krauss. Clayton seems to be more interested in woo than science.

I feel kind of bad saying this, but Clayton's "theory" was maybe the most generic, unoriginal, "God is everything''' idea I've ever heard. I had similar "insights" when I was a stoned 13 year old kid but quickly recognized the problem, which in part stems from the fact that anytime you use a psychedelic (and marijuana is indeed a psychedelic) our minds become "mind-detectors" on overdrive and often imbue everything around us with a sense of consciousness or connected purpose. I hope his passion however DOES lead him to do much further investigation into the realms of established physics, biology, cosmology, psychology, etc. and he drops the hokey pseudo-sophism.

Clayton should have stepped away from the bong instead of stepping away from the rock, or maybe the rock he was talking about was crack.🤡

~20:00 Are African Americans "more religious" than "from everywhere but Africa" Americans? Hmm. That quickly flips to "there are more white male atheists than (other) atheists". Not the same issue. Caveat: I'm an older white male. And, at conventions, I note lots of same. But...Why do we notice few black atheists? How about this... Atheists are a small percentage of the total population. (2-4%? More? Does "not afilliated with an organized religion" count?) Blacks are, I think, about 10% of the American population. What is 2% of 10%? Answer: not very many. Might the actual number be more like half or one percent? Sure. I'm just playing with numbers.

Morality is one of the few subjects I disagree with Matt about.

@@starlaminde8436 Matt says he understands that objective morality doesn’t exist, but he bases his morality on “well-being” and doesn’t care whether it’s objective or not. That kind of goes against what he says about wanting to believe as many true things as possible and not believe any false things. Matt seems to be able to handle the fact that philosophy has never been able to solve the problem of hard solipsism, but he seems uncomfortable with the fact that philosophy has never been able to solve the problem of objective morality.

@@FourDeuce01 I’m not the best at explaining but I believe that he has stated several hundred times that we can use a subjective route to get to the objective. Not having a deity or any authority giving us an objective morality. But that’s just how I understand it. So as to avoid the euthyphro dilemma .

+JOHN MENUIS said 5 months ago (and disabled comments; YT gives them a year or more): I, as a worshipper of the Great Purple Sun God, am religious and as such should not have to pay taxes. //// To which I reply: Worshippers pay taxes. The purveyors of religion don't. And here you are, on YT, purveying your religion. So by that rubrik, perhaps you should be exempt. Or maybe it's having a book. Or a building. Or at least one person in your flock. Ya might wanna look into that. Kent Hovind sells a course on how to be tax exempt by being a "church". He's now in jail for tax evasion. Well, maybe he's out now. Or soon. So expect to see him showing up again on YT (and IRL). Til then...there's the Sun...er, I mean son...Eric. PS Purple is my favourite colour. Is the god purple...or is the sun (His physical manifestation in our universe, I'm guessing) purple? What are your tenets? I might be interested.

Ah, the famous "white male privilege"... White males are not particularly "privileged", some of them are. But most of them had to fight for a long historical period to get some rights and better their living conditions. Privileged white women had it a lot easier through history and still do. Tribunals are a lot more lenient towards them, they were protected and taken care by males, particularly in rich urban environment. For a very long time those white privileged women didn't had to compete with males if they didn't want to or even work. My grandmother married my grandfather without loving or even respecting him. He was working hard to make his own business and had what she considered enough money to support her and pay for a full time maid. Some girl from the countryside that she was treating as inferior. She got a second maid to take care of the kids who grew up hating their father an treating everyone else like she did. The boys were expected to take the business continuity and the girls to marry well. It wasn't a patriarchy, my grandfather never had his word to say concerning his spoiled kids, it was a matriarchy and a nasty one. And that's not an exception, my grandmothers sister did the same thing with a guy even richer and she chose to not have kids because she hated them (yes, how modern !) but still got a maid.
