Old school Death Metal probably Altars of Madness for me. In 1989 or 90 I first heard the cassette....and my jaw was on the floor. Songs still really hold up today also. If I went to an MA concert and they played nothing but that entire first album, Id be happy af.

I got into Metallica in 1988. I was 13. I've been INTENSELY devouring metal since then. I had never heard of mask boy here. I have every single album, EP and DVD that Cannibal Corpse has released. They're fucking KILLER. Every single album kicks ass (some more than others). So, you don't have any CC in your collection? Ooh! Such a badass. You sound like a hipster. "They're popular so I don't like them. I like more underground shit. I'm so cool!" 🤣 Bet you haven't heard of Reverorum Ib Malacht. EDIT: I had listened to several Midnight songs from various albums. Talking of Youngstown, Ohio.. Athenar bought a WARFARE 7" off me when his old band BOULDER played at the 2nd STONER HANDS OF DOOM fest held at the Nyabinghi venue back in 2000. I remember he wasn't sure if he already had that 7" , but he still bought it. Good taste, Sir.

My poser encounter story: Went to my nearest record store and a guy working there had a Mercyful Fate tour shirt on and he had a spikey mohawk and tattoo sleeves. I asked him if he went to the Atlanta show and he said yeah. I said it sucks they weren’t playing 90’s tracks on that tour and he got quiet and acted like he didn’t want to talk. He then claimed they played eight encores and when I questioned him, he said he had to help customers.

The first 3 CC are pretty much mandatory if you're and DM fan ;) I don't know about the 'BEST' DM album is but one of my all time favorite DM albums is Necrophagia - Holocausto de la Morte. But I do miss the 1980s... motorhead / venom / hellhammer/ sodom/ destruction ....crossover , HC punk and metal was all aggressive... the (88-89) 1990s really changed everything. I was 20 in '91 and liked 'Mental Funeral' when it came out and still like it haha Love the low fi production.

Everyone can shoot the ball from close to half court, the individual skill level is really high but the games are boring because of that and very few players have that swagger that they had back in the 80s and 90s. Most of the people say that the song "Black Sabbath" by BLACK SABBATH is doom, not for me because that song was way ahead of it time due to the occult lyricism and the heavy and dark riffs (the "Devil's Tritone"), so, for me, that song is the beggining of Blackened Metal (not black metal).

I'm a 55 year old metal head, purchased Venom's Black Metal way back in 82' from an independent store called Central Station records here in Melbourne Australia so i have been into this stuff for a long time, i remember meeting a guy back in 91' at a gig, he said to me, "have you heard the latest Autopsy, it's the best death metal album of all time" he was of course talking about Mental Funeral.

well back in the day in the late 70's and early 80's here in south texas where mexican radio ruled the sound waves (thank God for Columbia house) and where the catholic church had a say so on what you could listen to, bands like kiss, black sabbath, iron maiden, rush, scorpions, judas priest, Led zeppelin, ac-dc and even boston were considered devil music..... and when the movie Heavy Metal came out that's when we started calling this type of music.... heavy metal in my area..... now its just classic rock....
