Yeah I learned the hard way about 10 years ago on my S2000. I used a T40 and messed up the bolts. And that’s why I offer the Torx T40 Plus as n my website. Thx for watching. Pls subscribe

Great video! Will have to order that adapter for the K24! At 7:08 You torque the crank bolt, but don't show what tool you use to hold the crank still. Could you elaborate on that and say what do you use to keep the pulley still while torquing the bolt? Thanks!

Ok, why is it that the OEM damper slid off yet the ATI must have a press fit to properly work? You cannot tell me Honda would not have a press fit if it were required. There is probably 15,000-20,000 of lbf clamp force when that crank bolt is torqued - I presume that Honda determined the clamp force alone was sufficient to not allow the damper to rotate/slip on the crank. Looking for a technical explanation - a former automotive engineer of 20 years commenting here. Excellent video on how to!

I appreciate you watching and commenting. Regardless of slip fit or press fit, OEMs tune crankshaft pulleys to minimize harmonics and vibrations originating from the many forces applied to the crankshaft. Honda deemed their design (woodruff key, slip fit, M16 crankshaft bolt assuming K series and material/weighted/filled crankshaft pulley) accomplished enough dampening to meet their criteria. However, not all OEM crankshaft pulleys are slip fit. In fact, Toyota opted for a press fit design on the 1ZZ, 2ZZ, and 3SGTEs and Toyota deemed their design met their criteria. ATI has a criteria, too. They believe if the Super Damper is not pressed on, the engine harmonics will not make it to the damper and not allow the damper to dampen. I don’t know the FN number for the press fit, but it’s not a huge interference fit. Hope this helps. -AJ (former Aerospace (Satellite) Engineer 20 years, ex-Toyota Senior Accessory Developer, and born as a wanna be racer)

Also, I have a GM aftermarket crank with a woodruff key, that is, the key slot does not extend to the end of the crankshaft. How exactly does one press fit a damper and aligned to woodruff key? BTW, the original OEM damper on the 1969 GTO engine here had a slip fit damper. Again, why is a press fit needed when a second case is given where OE did not deem necessary and how does one install press fit damper on woodruff key configuration?

I don’t think it is plausible to compare current day vibration and harmonics detection and engine design to over 50 years ago. The newer engines are more efficient and run so much smoother. The woodruff key configuration you are referring to is the same on the 2ZZ. Check out my 2ZZ ATI Super Damper video to learn how I did it.
