Having said that, I love Subotnick's music, I think it's very forward-looking and It has expanded the way I think about music and sound. I also like Buchla's instruments, almost all the clips I've seen online of one of his instruments sound so unique and beautiful. One thing I don't understand is, If the initial goal was to make it for everybody why are they so expensive? I understand at that time, the technology was new.but It's 2013 and Don has the Buchla 200e on the market, which costs 20,000

Finally there is an affordable set of Buchla instruments made by Tiptop audio. You just had to wait 9 years!

Unlike many electronic music composers, Subotnick never abandoned alien sounds to degenerate into boring slow chord progression New Age music, like Jean Michel Jarre and Tangerine Dream did. Many experimentalists devolve into safe, popular, generic music. Subotnick is the Future.

I might be wrong but I think that Jarre and TD did better out of it. Most people would have no clue who Morton even is. And besides, I find I can appreciate all of them equally. If the world only had the music of Morton in it then it would be poorer. Variety is the key.

I agree. Variety is important. I just can't even force myself to enjoy ambient music like that of Eno, Tangerine Dream, etc. To each his own.

Switched On Bach has its own sweetness about it, music is supposed to represent emotions too, not only innovation or experimentation: the way Carlos took Bach's pieces and replayed them on the Moog gave them a new emotional vibe. I did like the talk but sometimes he underestimates the fact that most people don't care about radical solutions but only want to hear a sweet tune to forget their daily problems and to get to a state of emotional fulfillment, which is more important for them.

Aalto by Madrona Labs is the closest example I've found BTW.

This is GREAT! the diagrams Mort uses at the end of this lecture are mine, that I did for a page describing his use of control tracks. We spoke about this once - i didn't know he was planning on using these for his lectures, but it's so great that he is. He's the originating page': web.archive.org/web/20110708110051/www.buzzclick-music.com/mort_lore.html
