This video shows how a smoke from a fire inside a room will spread out of the room opening (doors) and will eventually mixed with the cool/mall corridor outside air. The hot smoke/air will rise up through the void areas and eventually will settle/accumulate at the highest void level.
This also shows that the room compartmentation will play a very important role in preventing the spread of smoke and fire into the adjoining space for a mall.
The temperature will show that the wall on the rooms have a significant rise in temperature and if the room are not fully separated this may even cause a fire to the adjacent rooms/space or tenants.
Full compartmentation and a proper smoke exhaust system will help reduce the risk of spread of fire and contain the spread of unwanted smoke to the adjacent space.
WARNING:
Unfortunately Solidworks flow simulation have limited capability with this kind of simulation as i have experienced modelling a irregular shape of atrium, but the software only recognized a regular shape such as rectangle and will not be able to provide a simulation for the irregular shapes.
