The day prior to this video being taken I was in Defiance, OH waiting for the ND&W to depart west toward Woodburn. The ND&W utilizes a fleet of ex-ATSF GP20u locomotives, one of which still wears its iconic "bluebonnet" paint scheme. That happened to be the leader for that day's train. However, the train was tied down on the west side of Defiance that afternoon. With the next day free, however, a buddy and I decided to go back up there and give it a shot. Sure enough, the train did run and we got quite a few good shots.
At the time the ND&W was still undergoing a multi-million dollar rehabilitation program, and the rails, while improved slightly, were still pretty banged up west of Defiance, so the train moved slow enough that we were able to shoot it multiple times with ease. This unit still is working for the railroad today, and hopefully, despite the Patriot Rail takeover, will be for the foreseeable future.
Enjoy!
