Little interesting tip: when shuffling stuff around in the inventories, for smaller parts that fit more than one per slot, holding the Left-Alt key (in PC) fills up the slot when putting stuff in, or takes out (and moves around) all of the parts that were in that slot. I find that particularly useful when putting in repair kits, heh (keep in mind: sometimes repairing parts uses up more than one kit!).

Learned so much in just the first third of this video, wow.. and things I knew, but your application I had not considered! e.g. turning off the yaw/pitch/roll to allow SAS to handle it - had disabled thruster directions before, but had not considered shutting off what SAS already was accomplishing. Sounds so obvious now.

I discovered the Ladder Drive on my first repair satellite contract 😅 When my kerbal went on EVA holding the ladder, my ship started accelerating away from the satellite! Apparently, with SAS on, if a kerbal holds a ladder that has a parachute too close above it, then the game will slowly accelerate the craft in a straight line. What did I do with this knowledge? Went to the Mun of course! I spent the next 4+ hours doing "burns" by carefully rotating the ship and timing when the kerbal went on EVA. Aaand that took 4+ hours because you cannot time warp when a kerbal is on a ladder 🤦

If you’ve got yourself a fairly close, but high speed encounter, set up a maneuver node at the closest approach point, and just enter the delta-v you need to bring yourself to rest relative to the target. Don’t bother futzing with radial and normal vectors, because you only need the node for the timing. Make sure you’ve got the navball in target mode, and just burn retrograde when you reach the node, until your velocity to target reaches 0.

This video made me realize just how far behind console versions are behind PC. Console is roughly 2 years behind, it's hard to say exactly since they use different version numbers. The breaking ground DLC did get released, but we don't have the cargo and inventory menus you opened up in the VAB. If you play on console and something is off, it's probably not you. Best info I could find is that the console versions are somewhere past PC version 1.5 and the last update didn't do much other than add save transfer to Next Gen. Awesome tutorial as usual, but unfortunately not everyone can make use of it.

A good rule to go by when trying to match these less then optimal rendezvous is to dont try making them optimal with just 2 burns its just not gonna be possable. Your first burn should be all about establishing a decently good encounter distance. the 2nd burn should be all about lowering the relative velocity to your target while at the same time fine tuning the encounter distance abit futher. After those 2 burns depending on how exact u were your orbits should be nearly identical and the relative velocity should be very low. Now there should only be very fine tuning needed to make a rendezvou or a docking. The more exact u got the 1st burn the more ecaxt the 2nd is gonna be and so on.

The stock EVA construction works the same as it does in the VAB. It should be just drag and drop. Make sure the part is tinted green first. If that isn't happening, there may be a bug. Try reloading and see if that helps.

@@MikeAben So when you were doing the EVA and welded the part to the ship, I thought you were going to use the ESD80 Screwdiver tool. But when you didn't I was confused, I couldn't see what you did. @@MikeAben So I haven't played in a year and things have changed. It's just very odd, you can put things in the seat inventory and you can put things in the ship inventory, but you can't move them from one to the other. And when you're doing EVA and use the construction tool you can only pull parts out of the ship inventory. After you place the part it does not set till you close the construction tool. How many Kerbals did it take to mess that up.
@MikeAben
Жыл бұрын
@Gary Engelman You can move parts between inventories, but some inventories are bigger than others so it may not fit. While on EVA, you can pull parts from the kerbal's personal inventory or from the ship's inventory provided you're close enough. A part is placed the moment you let it go. You don't have to close the construction tool. I'm not sure where your confusion is coming from.

Would you happen to have any tips on getting an inclination set during your ascent from Kerbin? I find myself going at 90 HDG then setting my incline in orbit, but is there an easy way to translate the targets inclination into you launch?
@MikeAben
2 жыл бұрын
The key is launching at the ascending or descending node of the target orbit. I do plan on making that the topic in another tutorial or two.
@JohnWilliamNowak
2 жыл бұрын
I think there's two things to keep in mind: 1) It is impossible to launch directly into an orbit with an inclination lower than the latitude of your launch site. This is the biggest reason launch sites are as close to the equator as possible. The ISS was placed into a highly inclined orbit so the Russians could participate. A Soyuz launched from Khazakstan cannot reach the Chinese space station. 2) Your orbital inclination is set by the launch azimuth equation, (ARCSIN(COS(finalInc)/COS(Lat))). finalInc is your target inclination, Lat is the latitude of your launch base. 3) As Mike pointed out, launch at the ascending or descending node of the target orbit.
