I don't care about most localizations most of the time, but there are some times where it crosses a line into censorship, and that I have a problem with. The purpose of localization is to give me, the English speaking player, something as close to the experience of a Japanese player as possible. It will never be precise, but the intentions of the developers should be respected and their work translated faithfully, even if it might be difficult for certain people to deal with.

The return of Mark, and it became even crazier than last time. The only thing potentially missing in the sketch is replacing localizers with AIs. But otherwise, it's 100% true, these guys make the arguments that it's disrespecting to the original developers, but if you prove to them that they don't care or they approve it, their opinion suddenly don't matter anymore and they become even more violent and virulent, revealing their true motivations.

as someone who played kuro through the fan translation, i PERSONALLY believe beautys blade to be a fairly strange change just off of how hatsuu described it as deliberately meant to be an embarrassing nickname, which in the fan translation, is not what elaine is embarrassed of. she gets embarrassed due to people implying she's a virgin off of the "maiden" part, as well as calling her "sword granny" along with other nicknames, so i feel like the change is based off of a misreading of elaines character and why i dont like it.

Wasn't Mark the same guy who had a problem with "Kingdom Hearts nonsense" being in every jrpg? lol

a name change: eh mostly whatever a dialogue line changed to appeal to popular meme culture: I'll survive, but it's cringe and will become an outdated reference fast. completely changing the meaning of something to appeal to the localizer's personal political belief: See, that might be a reasonable place to start drawing a line.

Who the fuck would localize for western audience thinking beauty blade would sound better than swordswoman or sword maiden or even just plain old swordmaster? The problem with localizers is that they suck at their job.

This shit happened with P3R when they slightly toned down a fanservice scene. It was sad to see hundreds of comments blindly glazing yellowflash over hating the slightest change and ignoring all the work it took to get a localized version out day 1.

Why do they need to "tone down" anything though? Its not harmful, and its not anything we haven't seen before. Pron is legal in US, but technically illegal in Japan. Yet fan service is removed when anything is localized to the US. It makes no sense.

@@actionjackson6943 The actual fanservice was unchanged. It was a few dialogue bit's that were changed because they were uncomfortable, even the Japanese version changed them. Nobody who enjoyed the original persona 3 shed a tear over some odd dialogue and none of it would have bumped up the rating.
