HOLY...FREAKING...COW, man!!! This was so _good._ It brought tears to my eyes, for sure. The song choice fit amazingly, and then video itself was sublimely crafted: the moments you chose overall, the way they fit the specific lyrics being sung at a given moment, and the general design aspect of how you combined and connected different moments. I think one of my favorite little bits is where you showed Eren smiling at the young children. (As a side note, it's very meaningful to me when a man is kind to or good with children. To me it suggests a lot about his character, though it's not always a sure thing.) It's nostalgic for him, you can tell, but the really key thing for the video is that it's one of those subtle little moments that reminds you of the kind nature the boy actually has, which I feel people overlook with him. In fact, it's his empathy and compassion when he sees others suffering or being wronged that are actually a huge part of what drives the rage and aggression. It's a beautiful, touching, and tragic irony that I'm sure was very intentionally written. And that moment of his smiling at the innocent little children also takes on a truly chilling aspect when you realize what he's going to be doing in the future. So the scene was just doubly or even triply effective: It's a reminder of his own wide-eyed nature when he was a youngster (and come to think of it, it's interesting how even though he's now seen some of the depths of suffering and horror, he still manages to smile, like he's still holding on to more hope than his elders at this point) ; it's something that touches on the softer side of this young man ; and it's something that pretty much breaks your heart and sends a chill down your spine when you consider what he'll do in the future. (I'm an anime-mostly, but an aware of more than a few spoilers at this point. Season 4 is just gonna end us. 😅😅😅) And the multiple moments where you had a whole collage of different scenes were an unexpected treat, and I also appreciate the variation you provided even within that; some moments you had a bunch of different scenes, while others you had just one central scene with all the other panels being showing scene B, like as a surrounding/background for the central one. Hopefully I communicated that clearly enough...I'm struggling a little with describing it effectively. XD An even bigger unexpected treat was that you showcased multiple characters, rather than solely Eren. And don't get me wrong here-I truly do love Eren and probably connect with him on a deeper level than I do any other character in this series and also than many characters in other series. So I came here expecting it to just focus on him and wouldn't have been the least bit disappointed if it have. But then when you started showing Levi and Erwin and Mikasa and the gang (you even had Grisha!!), in addition to still having a more central focus on Eren, I was just so very happy. And in particular it seems like it's not common to see Eren and Levi both showcased in the same video, except for...non-kashér reasons...so it was really, really nice to actually see something like this. And if you notice, Levi and Erin definitely have some similarities in both personality and backstory, and I'd say Levi is actually the character people get mad at the young Eren for NOT being yet. Levi is older-in his 30s, versus Eren's being 15 for much of the series-and more experienced and has had years of having to cope with trauma and also be able to cope effectively as not only a soldier but someone in a position of command/leadership. So yeah, he's overall got a better handle on restraining his emotions, and he's developed certain coping strategies. But I think Eren and Levi are actually less different than people think, and also that Eren is a very raw, realistic, grounded character in terms of how he responds to having both suffered several lifetimes' worth of trauma before even reaching adulthood AND also experiencing the suffering of OTHERS via the memories/flashbacks! And interestingly enough, it seems that Eren actually does begin to resemble Levi more as he gets older. Even his eyes and expression-if you look at the Season 4 trailer and that moment where they show him tossing on the jacket-his eyes and the accompanying aura reminded me of those of several characters, but especially those of Levi and Mikasa. Come to think of it, another similarity Eren has with his guardian/mentor is that both have a genuine kindness and a softer side to them that seem to go kind of underappreciated. Heck, I see people calling both men psychopaths, and while there are various things you could perhaps call them-especially Jaeger, whom I feel was a bit off already even as a young child, prior to any of Grisha's interference-I am adamant in saying that they're not on the psychopath-sociopath-malignant-narcissist spectrum. And a fundamental thing I point to as excluding that is the genuine empathy, altruism, and compassion that they've displayed. There's a psychologist who's done a video on KZitem-actually, there seem to be a couple of different videos now by different folks-about Levi's psychology, and I really enjoyed her video and have recommended it to folks who think Levi is emotionless, a high-functioning psychopath, and other stuff he's been labeled. Absolutely not, folks. And the video helped me understand just how well-written and accurate this character is. The groundedness and realism of the characters and their actions and reactions and emotions were already a key thing I appreciate about this series and I think it's one of its greatest aspects, but I gained a new appreciation for just what heights that reaches. And I look forward to both doing analyses of my own as a layman (actually, I'm already working on stuff currently...) ahead of during Season 4, and also watching stuff about Eren in particular once the series comes to a close and spoilers are no longer a factor.
