Hello all! In this video I was called out by a customer who wasn't sure if I could restore his headlights. I thoroughly explained to him the issue with the lens was both microcracking and your normal hazing. Microcracking occurs when the polycarbonate lens excessively expands due to constantly heating up and cooling down. It can be on a few different layers of the lens. Some can be on the surface, the middle of the lens, or closer to the inside pane of the lens. This customer had both surface, and middle layer micro cracks. As you can see, on the finished result, the clear coat was able to fill a good majority of the surface cracks, but not the middle layer cracks. This is why when hitting sunlight, the cracks reflect the light, becoming more obvious. I was very honest with him, and told him that It would look better, but not perfect, to which he replied, "Can't look any worse".
I've noticed on few different Corvettes there is a weird wavy patter in the middle of the lens. You can see this in a video I did awhile back on another Corvette. This one had it slightly on the driver side, and even more on the passenger side. Overall the customer was happy with the result. I was able to remove the yellowing as well.
