i thought you werent supposed to insulate all the joists to allow airflow to go up thru the roof?

Yeah true. But I’m putting a new roof on with metal and air flow baffles.

Bunch of trash comments on here... You crushed this bro, thanks for the excellent video. I'm about to tackle my attic that is very similar and this EXACTLY what I needed. LMK If a part 3 is in the works! I'd be eager to see it. Cheers!

No trash, just facts that can help someone avoid some of his mistakes like putting wires into the ceiling outside a junction box which is illegal and not to code in every state in the union. It's a fire hazard!

I’m just starting a similar process. Wanted to see your insulation details. I’m planning on putting baffles under the roof decking and then R38 bats. What R value did you end up with and was it sufficient for a comfortable living space Thanks.

Yeah, that's a good idea. I'll be redoing the roof anyways and adding some ventilation as well. The ceiling has R19 I believe. That's an older roof, some roofs have 2x6 so if that's the case go with something thicker id say.

Related question, as you mentioned ventilation. I was wondering how air flow in your attic and rest of your house worked after doing the insulation the way you did. I'm curious as to what your new plan. For reference on attic/roof airflow, here's a quick video: kzitem.info/news/bejne/1KKe1G2IoqN5fmUsi=2PX1UK75T0SBl1uK

Im pretty sure he messed up the insulation process in the ceiling. He should've left a a gap between the insulation and the roof for airflow. The way he did it is suffocating the roof, creating moisture and its a matter of time til it gets full of mold and mildew. Theres no air vent.

Dude….You need junction boxes or get pod lights with enclosed junction connectors.

Yeah, I agree. Definitely not an ideal way to make it work.

Was this permitted work? Id be surprised if that R19 insulation was sufficient. Even in the southeast they require at least R30.

Shouldn't run ethernet wire with 120 volt electric in a pipe.

So no batts before the insulation? Not worried about ruining your roof?

I’m redoing the exterior of the roof within the year or so. I do have another roof pitch in the right side.
