Agreed. Sometimes we show up as an opening band but are told that we can’t get a soundcheck. I know that happens a lot here in Nashville. Most of the time it’s due to the headline act taking too long to setup. Drummer is killing it here.

What am I missing here? You can't play at your best if you cannot hear what you playing or the team you are playing with. Anyone who has a problem with thesegus attitude is not a musician, has absolutely no idea what it takes to play with a click and a band.

I’ve had a Braker go out in my church and the singers began singing acapalla and stomping their feet. There were people who didn’t even realize the piano and bass went out. That’s professionalism. There’s nothing professional about embarrassing someone or getting publicly upset. Another story: I ran sound at a church and their old console went down during sound check. I had to go get another console and then set up in 30 minutes at a church I had never run sound in. On top of that, half their wireless mics were bad so they were upset they couldn’t have 16 wireless mics on every person in the choir with me literally rerouting their whole system to just have sound at all. Had someone complaining angrily at me at one point that she had feedback AFTER the service while she was dismissing people…. Made me never run sound there again. Their loss. In other words, you cannot know all the factors or people’s lives. Being professional means rolling with punches and doing your best to move forward without be coming a problem

Those guys only wanted the music to be good and I believe like most sound engineers do in churches this engineer was interfering with their sound and causing unpleasant distractions to them This guys playing were playing from their hearts and you see the joy mostly in the drummers expression They don't see sound engineers doing their worst it's only people in front they see

I think some blame goes all around. First and foremost the sound guys were not doing these musicians any favors however, a pro can communicate with sound people and get the problem fixed without the crowd even knowing it’s going on. Physically turning around and flailing your arms and not playing a note is the absolute wrong way to fix the problem. This drummer is a beast. I would’ve loved to play with someone who could destroy a drum set like this. He’s a talented dude.

Thats right, when I used to play in a band I would make sure during brand practice to tell everyone that if anyone messes up, everyone else keep going and they will catch up later becuse as long as everyone keeps playing and stays in time, you can recover and most people wouldnt even notice the mess up. If everyone stays tight, the person who messed up can jump right back in. If everyone stops because of one person then the whole band looks like unprofessional jackasses,lol

I play drums at my church, this past Sunday, my in ear mix went haywire during invitation at the end of the service. Had all bass and lead guitar, no vocals. Between beats, I took out my in ears and just played to the movement of the lady singing "my wife". Which is tough because by the time she would sing into the mic, the sound has to travel from the speakers to the back wall and then back to my ears, I would be playing almost behind the beat. I had to play to the movement of her mouth as she was singing. Luckily, I'm pretty familiar with our songs.
@GlowintheDarkVO

I’ve had that happen a couple of times. Now I make sure that I can always see the keyboard player’s left hand and the lead guitar player’s strumming elbow. Between those two, I can always find the downbeat at the beginning of a measure. From there, it’s just a matter of counting and trying as hard as possible to be a human metronome. But you make the most important point: Know your music.

The problem here is that the sound men are trying to be on stage during the performance. Sure they have an excuse. They want to be the center of attention because they're going to fix the speaker that isn't working properly. But there is a point of realizing that you are wrecking the performance by trying to get one more speaker working that you don't really need. "But it's my job!' No! Your job is to do what's best for the performance. The musicians kept trying to tell them, leave it! It's not important! Just leave it! We're in the middle of a performance here! WTH! The musicians were trying to tell them to leave it alone. All they were doing was distracting the musicians and detracting from the performance. A good sound man might quickly check a connection to make sure it's plugged in. But they are not going to spend an entire song climbing around equipment and in between drum cymbals. I'm sure this band had a band meeting and they discussed this problem. And I'm sure that lessons were learned. Because this is part of a journey for each individual. For one it might be to learn self control and to not get angry at idiots. For another it might be to let a problem go and not take it personally as a failure of their own self-esteem. It's always about the life lessons and the separate journeys which are joined as one journey.

This is very unprofessional, too many stage disruptions, irritating, too many unnecessary moments on stage, sounds engineer should do proper sound checks before the performance begins

Rest assured the sound crew was there before the musicians. We don't just hit the switch and turn everything on. But if there's no ban there to do the soundcheck before the show then it's not our fault and they can't hear during the show. I've seen it too many times where the audience says that it sounded great but nobody on stage could hear worth a darn.

Sometimes, some people are not disciplined, they can make you angry, distracted n uncomfortable, it should be stopped

It's nerve wracking. Especially if it messes you up. But, there's no reason to go crazy. Except the time we did a kinda rushed showcase for some labels. Opening for a bigger band on tour. Worked out the stage sound. We came up to play and all new people for some reason. Asking politely. Total attitude. It was horrendous. This new tour manager was like "keep it moving I knew nothing about...". It got ugly. Labels to see us. Our management flew from NYC to LA...
