If you want an accurate reading of the engine temp, you would want to hook it up on the thermostat side which dumps back in to the radiator so it can cool off. The feed side going into the water pump has already been cooled down below the engine temperature, and which is waiting for the thermostat to open so the hot can go out, and the cooler Antifreeze come into the engine and take it's place. I hope this helps and makes sense.

I know this is an older video but I have a question. I’m installing an inline temp gauge on my 700. Would I install the fitting on the hoses with the thermostat or the hose that goes to the.bottom of the motor on the left side? I guess I’m asking which hose dumps coolant into the radiator from the motor? Thanks.
