Thanks man. Just did the right side HID change on a A4 convertible. It went a lot smoother than I was expecting. Didn't have to loosen the headlight but had to get the right cover screw out at an angle. Just a tip if you do want to loosen the headlights, for that hidden screw down the hole, what I did was get a long flat-head screwdriver and dremel the blade so it could be used to drive the torx. Apparently most sockets are too big for the hole. Bonus is you also get to have a long (if slightly smaller bladed) screwdriver.

Thanks for sharing your experience chaps comer. Good to have another option on those torx heads cheers 👍

Does anyone know if the wiring harness is the same for halogen vs Xenon and if so can I swap the whole set up from xenon to halogen with minimal hassle?

Sorry Bart I don’t know about the wiring difference, might be best to jump on to an Audi forum where there might be diagrams and info for it. Cheers

Might be different. We have the HID and it's got motors inside for directing the beam. I don't think the halogens have that so may be a different control scheme (I might be wrong though).

Thanks mate, but after watching this I discovered Halfords (UK) fit bulbs for £6, plus price of whichever bulb you buy. I can honestly say it was painless ;) and the lad only took 10 minutes, Mines an 05 plate A4 2ltr Diesel Est all he needed to do was unscrew 2, or 3 bolts on each light and they slipped out easily. Thanks, but for the cost I'd just grab a coffee and let the man do it.

Totally agree Halfords are great at the simple stuff but wouldn’t touch my car as there wasn’t the access. Thanks for sharing your experience, cheers

You must have standard halogen bulb not HID, I cannot believe halford would swap it for £6, currently on their website there is not even option to change HID bulb for A4 B7 only the H7

You know, it really is just easier to remove the bumper after all, LoL. Lift the car at the sub frame, pop in a couple jackstands, turn wheels to the left, loosen two screws behind wheel well cover, do the same for the right side, two bolts on top of the grille near each headlight, one in the center of the grille, and you can leave the ones underneath and just tilt the bumper cover forward. Loosen headlight bolts and slide them out. Trying to undo/redo that bale wire holding the bulb in with average sized hands is frustration enough to warrant taking the bumper off. When you've done so once, it's easier if you ever have to again. I can get a bumper cover off in mere minutes now.

Thank you JD that’s awesome information and detailed in how to take off the bumper, very much appreciated buddy. It’s definitely a job I wish the engineers and designers had thought about at the time of designing the car as either option is frustrating I think! I sold the car a couple of years ago now but great to have your comment and option if anyone wants to give that a go. Thanks man 👍🏻👍🏻

Hi how long did The original lamp lasted? Thanks in advance

I owned the car for about two years before I had to change the lamp, unfortunately I don’t have the previous history of the car before I owned it so it might have been changed the day before I got it or original to the car. Cheers

Is it any easier just taking the front off
@ManCaveMakings

Not sure but from the info I had at the time there was a lot of parts to come off and the bodywork was difficult to line up when it goes back on. 👍🏻

@@ManCaveMakings Removing the bumper is a huge PITA. If one could avoid removing the bumper, I would recommend going that route.

Thanks @oakblackbird for confirming I never did take off the front as I always thought the alternative would be better. Cheers dude 👍🏻

It is way easier to just take the fender off. I had such a hard time pulling out the plate that holds the bulb... couldn't get it out and decided to go for the bumper. Wasted hours.

Hab Par definitely tedious when compared with cars that have thought about maintaining them, at least this way you don’t have to drop the bumper!

Hab Par not unless you take care of a car the way you are supposed too. The B7 platform is one of the most reliable.
