Just had to do this. I have fixed seats but you were able to give me an idea of what I'm looking for. In my Owners Manual (2011 Audi A4 Fronttrak Base), I found the answer at the bottom of page 45 / top of page 46. You have to pop the whole seat out pretty much which wasn't too bad, I just pulled up on it and it popped loose. From there, you should see a little plastic/rubber loop handle that's Velcroed down and has a metal wire running from it. If you pull that out enough - don't need to pull hard - it'll pop your trunk open. Don't be surprised when you first pull it and see some of the rubber tubing surrounding the wire pull out from the seat assembly, freaked me out but I pulled a little more and it popped open.

@UltimateDIY

Bine ca ai rezolvat-o. Codul BEM e o vrajeala scumpa. Poti sa pui baterie fara cod si folosesti codul de pe alta baterie de acelasi tip si capacitate.

My '03 A4 Avant (Wagon) does not have either a manual latch or keyhole to release the hatch door. It is entirely electric and the actuator solenoid makes a noise but will not release. Here's the odd thing; in a fail, if I then start the car and try (after 30 seconds) it will release. I've had the actuator apart on the bench, inspected and cleaned adding fresh silicone grease (it did work for a while) but problem returned. Repaired 7 of 12 broken wires found in driver door harness (which is typical) and thought the issue was solved. Not it. Then thought perhaps the overhead hatch harness could have the same issue (partially frayed or broken wires) with too much resistance interrupting current flow. Not it. The only option left could be the actuator is worn out. If I knowing the required current for release I could measure but alas, those are specs difficult to find. Any ideas would be appreciated.
@UltimateDIY

Something is "sticking". It sometimes happens to my fathers Skoda Octavia. The actuator can't generate enough force to open the latch if I already pull upwards when I press the release button. If I push the hatch down, to releave some of the pressure on the latch, it releases just fine.

@@UltimateDIY the solenoid (in testing without load) resembled me at 17. No friction was apparent. I believe the motor sleeve bearings are worn just enough to hold it back. Obviously an economic decision (in design) to go with such a light motor. Owners (once again) leading engineers. I will check the latch for mechanical movement just to be sure it's not holding back and if fine will reach out to Rock Auto on a replacement. I am however bracing myself on price as from past experience with that distributor has not yielded too much in $ savings. Thanks very much for your feedback. Much appreciated, cheers.

Sadly, modern cars are all about cost savings. For the manufacturer that is, because the owner end up paying for that.

This happened to me, I just bought a new lock from my local Audi dealer, £30 odd, dead easy to change over, not had a problem since. That and the door mirror glass working loose are the only problems I have had in 6 years of ownership, car is now 10 years old, brilliant.
