This is the newest EV from Audi, and it’s called teh Q4 eTron so I’ll bet you can guess exactly where it slots in the lineup. So thanks to Audi Milwaukee for letting me have a go
Q4 eTron…that’s probably the first time that i’ve heard the name of an electric Audi and gone “yep, I know exactly what that is”
And just like you’d expect, this Q4 eTron slots above the Q3 but below the Q5 in size which makes a lot of sense since the Q5 has always been a touch bigger than rivals like the BMW X3 and the Mercedes GLC
I think Audi will sell a bunch of these Q4s
They’re the right size
And more importantly, they’re te right price
The Q5 starts at $54,000 which is $4,000 LESS than a Tesla model Y. Full transparency this speccd out Prestige trim is 64,000…which is a couple grand over the Tesla Model Y Performance
And if I’m honest, this doesn’t exactly give you Model Y fighting figures
Sure it’s dual motor, but max power is 300 hp
0-60 is 5.8 seconds
And range…well that’s 240 miles
So this Q4 then shines in Premium or Premium Plus trim with some boxes left unticked. However, yanno another thing Teslas do that Audis dont? Fall apart.
This FEELS like a luxury car
This FEELS like an Audi
The build quality is there
There are no creaks or rattles
My windows go up AND down every time I ask them to
And not to mention, I’d rather be sat here over the inside of anything in Tesla’s range
The Q4 genuinely does feel better screwed together. It feels substantial and it feels familiar. You can roll on the power and feel it build like an internal combustion car. There are genuine differences between the drive modes and how they effect the manners of the car. And the ride and cabin isolation is exactly what you’d expect from the 4 rings
All that is basically to say, this Q4 won’t grab the crazy EV headlines we’re used to seeing, but it drives like something we’re used to driving.
It’s nice, it’s easy, and it’s just kinda faultless
So with that, let’s step outside
The Audi Q4 eTron is the first eTron to bear a conventional Audi naming convention
It’s sized between, you guessed it the Q3 and Q5
But it’s all EV all the time, no hybrid, no gas
This rides on the same chassis as the VW ID4
This one comes standard with the dual motor AWD
300 hp
240 mile range
Starts at 54k, this one is 64 as tested
Model Y STARTS at 68k
Lets talk looks
Like most modern Audis the design is thoroughly modern
With a focus on the lighting features
In this white it reminds me of the RSQ8 they have at IA
Grille is just design
No frunk
Some cooling below grille
Prestige has dual 5 spoke wheels
20 in
Bridgestone tires
Puddle lights
From profile it’s very ID4 shaped
But looks SO much better than the VW
Slightly flared rear hip
Taillights are so cool
It’s not super shouty about being EV
Etron on back bumper
Trunk is nice size, no frunk
White with brown interior is a nice spec
Decent rear seat space for being smaller than the Q5
Flat floor
No sunshades, no heated rear seats
Ambient light, rear climate
Pano roof
Auto start the car when you sit down and put foot on the brake
Auto turn off when you are stopped and open the door
Don't even need to put it in park
Very geometric cabin
LOTS of piano black
LOTS of sliders
Volume
Steering wheel
Sunroof
Steering wheel is weird shape
With all the uber modern stuff the infotainment is refreshingly familiar
Virtual cockpit is the best in the game
Prestige trim gets AR navigation in HUD
360 cameras
Heated seats heated steering wheel
No cooled seats
