I'm so glad you made this, the Porsche videos were great, but the R8 really is the best budget supercar out there that people don't realize they can afford for BMW money. Amazing job.

Great review! I own a 2012 R8 V10 and all I can say is you get a million dollars of looks and fun for 110 grand. Can't be beat! Bulletproof car as well. I have 20 k miles and only replaced a fuel sensor. Must get after market exhaust as well. Truly a classic...

Great video, as always. You make a really good point that I think deserves some further discussion in regards to some of the V8 cars being advertised as V10s. Last spring/summer, when shopping for a CPO 981 Boxster S, I would say that 15% of the ads I looked at (primarily on AutoTrader) had errors in the options listing.. some of them significant. Some were obvious (transmission listed as manual, pictures show PDK), others you had to look closer to see such as the belts being standard black but the listing claimed they were red or gray. Many times wheels were incorrectly listed (19" vs. 20" Carerra Classics that were shown in the pictures) all the way to the body color being listed as black when the pictures show silver. In addition to the above, I saw several listings where the dealer claimed the car was Certified, but if you dug into the depths of the listing, there would be a line item about the buyer having to pay for the certification process. One dealer I contacted quoted me at an additional $2,100 for this. Naturally, I walked. The takeaway from this is that potential buyers need to cross-reference what the seller/dealer is stating with the pictures posted, then finally with the vehicle in person. In addition, potential buyers should be aware that searching based on options could possibly overlook the car they are looking for. Best to use broad search parameters such as price or location and work from there.

Excellent information. I'm interested in a 2014 V10 S-tronic coupe. Plus model optional. What I'd like to get a better feel for is which model is more desireable coupe or spyder. As you mentioned, the one thing that makes me feel uncomfortable is the wide range of prices I see in the market.

I'm looking for the V-10 model year 14 or 15. While I do agree there is such thing as over powered, the sound and I think resale value the V-10 is better. Now is it worth 10k more than the v8?
@Eltern10

Definitely the v10. The v8 doesn't have the advertised 420hp, the v10 can be easily pushed to 600hp. Manual v10 would be perfect!

Another candidate is the Sls Amg. The car had usual Mercedes Amg stock market crash depreciation in the first 2-3 year, but as soon as production stopped, values soared. If you had bought a lightly used example then kept it for a year, would made a hefty profit and gotten to enjoy a great car. Food for thought.

So in summary, the 2010 is the best option because the depreciation curve is around 5k/y as long as the clutch isn't completely shot. And when it goes you can spend a little more for an aftermarket Kevlar one and it will last much longer.

Thank you for making this video and putting all the effort and research in to it. And I want to ask you a question I'm soon going to buy the R8 V10 plus 2017 and I'm planning on keeping it for a long time but do you think it would Depreciate a lot in years to come since it's some of the last N/A engines or would it still hold good value ?
@JPandCompany
7 жыл бұрын
Thanks Fahad! I think you can expect the same amount of depreciation as the previous generation. As good as the turbo engines are, I don't see the N/A cars being that valuable.
@TheTmat007

Thanks for this great vid! But, I personally think every supercar with a naturally aspirated engine will eventually increase in value. Or, it will at least retain its value. And the reason why I believe that to be the case, is because most supercar manufacturer are building turbo or supercharged engines. That means supercars with naturally aspirated engines are becoming rare. And people are willing to pay a premium for rarity.

I could see down the road a decade or two where that could be the case. It will be interesting to see the used car market over the next decade as electric and uber become more ingrained in everyday life.

The R8 v10plus in the post 2014 s-tronic tranny seems to be a great deal as of today. prices seem to have dropped significantly from even three months ago. Finding one with diamond stitching is a bit more difficult. Not that big a fan of the new 2017/18 model even tho the options are better and HP is higher. Where do you see the 2014-16 v10 plus cars headed for pricing over the next year?
