“Our first lockdown (due to COVID) was 15 months straight. Since then it’s been on and off... Our access to phone is limited, that takes a toll inside. It cuts off our connection to programming, rehab, education… at a time when we needed the most support from family and programming - we’re getting cut off from it.”
This is Miguel Sifuentes on experiencing extended lockdowns in San Quentin Prison due to COVID. When someone inside gets sick, they enforce a lockdown and worsen the situation by putting thousands of people in unventilated spaces, all living in close quarters. It is not mandatory for the guards to wear masks as long as they’re vaccinated…On top of this, folks inside are cut off from everything... these are the disastrous impacts of this policy on people's health and human rights.
