What happens to my regular PC audio output (currently going to my Mackie speakers, same as these) when I connect a 2i2 as shown? Do I patch the PC audio back into the 2i2? In other words, can I set up as shown here, but still have regualr PC audio (eg. youtube) go to my speakers?
@AudioTechTV

Set your audio interface as the default audio device in windows sound properties. Then all of your audio will be routed to your speakers through the 2i2. Typically mine becomes the default interface whenever I plug it in.

Thanks a lot man! Although I’m still kinda confused about the hardware itself. I want to connect my piano (Kawai CN39) to a DAW but I really don’t know how because there are so ”many" options. On KZitem I’ve seen people do without an audio interface and some that say you absolutely have to use one. Then there is USB type B and MIDI. Which should I use? I want to visualize my playing with software like for example Embers. But I of course also want sound. So do I need to connect my PC to USB type B MIDI to transfer both the sound and the physical playing to it be visualized? I’m a noob when it comes to audio tech and for weeks now I don’t know what to do :(
@AudioTechTV
Жыл бұрын
If you’re wanting to use Embers, I’m pretty sure it works with midi files. So you’ll need to record the midi, save it and then load it into embers. I’m not too familiar with the process but I think that’s how it works. So for that you can use USB. You can also use USB to work with midi in your DAW and then use virtual instruments for the sounds. This gives you tons of different instruments that you can choose from. If you want to record the actual sound of your Kawai then you should connect the line out to the line input on an audio interface and record it as audio not midi. If your computers built in sound card has a line input you can probably connect it to that. The quality may not be as good as an audio interface and the latency might not be great but it could work. Something to keep in mind is your piano likely outputs Stereo. So if you’re getting an audio interface, get one with 2 line inputs that way you can record in stereo.

The interface I use is the Native Instruments Komplete Audio 1, and I want to connect my gaming headset (I'll be switching to studio headphones soon). However, this doesn't work as intended. When I plug the 6.35mm jack into the headphone jack of the interface, I get sound, which seems great. But, my system stops receiving sound from the XLR line input until I disconnect the headphones. I've seen recommendations about "routing" the outputs and inputs correctly, but I'm unfamiliar with this term and unsure how to fix it. I hope someone in this great community can help me with this dilemma.

@AudioTechTV

In my opinion audio is one of the most important things for KZitem. So I don’t think that this is overkill for a KZitem channel. I think this is the entry level for it. Now it also depends on what mic you want to pair with it too. It could be seen as overkill for a cheap mic but if you invest in this now, you’ll be able to add another mic later on.

@AudioTechTV
Жыл бұрын
If you’re talking about something like a gamer headset then no. I haven’t really used one. But if you’re wondering about studio headphones then yes. If you want a decent pair for mixing you’ll need to spend a bit of money. Personally I use a combo of Audio Technica ATH M50x and Beyerdynamic DT770 770 pro 250 ohm version. I probably use the DT770 more during the main mixing just because I like the comfort. If you’re on a budget the Tascam TH02 headphones are decent. But audio Technica also has some lower models that can be decent too. You want to try to find headphones that have a flat frequency response. Usually if you visit a manufacturer website they will have a graph. No headphones will be perfect. Once you get your headphones it may take some time to get used to the frequencies they hype or don’t allow you to hear well. I like using virtual studio plugins like Waves NX series to go with my headphones it can really help quite a bit and also help you to get used to your headphones. I hope this helps.

If your headset has a separate connector for the mic and headphone then you would likely need adapters to plug the mic into the mic input and headphones into the headphone output. If it’s an all in one connection (TRRS) then maybe there is an adapter that goes from TRRS to XLR male and trs. I’m not sure if something like that exists but maybe it does.

You don’t need speakers connected. This sounds like a routing issue. You might be using the Asio4all driver. If you are you can open the control panel for it and set the output to the um2. It will likely be called “audio codec”. That’s if you’re using the plug and play driver with Asio4all.

@AudioTechTV

If you’re using a 1/4” cable to connect your mic to the audio interface you won’t be going into the mic preamp. You can likely connect your mic to the audio interface with the 1/4” cable but it won’t sound the best. If your mic is a condenser microphone then you won’t be able to use it with the 1/4” cable because you can’t access the phantom power needed for a condenser.
@DanielleBaylor

@AudioTechTV

If you have a condenser microphone that requires phantom power then yes phantom power is necessary. If your mic doesn’t require phantom power then it’s not necessary. When buying a mic that needs phantom power it will most likely say that it requires 48v phantom power. Condenser mics need it. Dynamics don’t.

If you want to use your audio interface as your output device then yes you should get wired headphones. I'm a beginner and I'm looking to buy a laptop off of ebay. What is the minimum of GB's that will do the job? I've see 8GB, 16GB, 32GB, and 64GB. Which one do I need to get?

16gb of ram would be the minimum that I would go with. Most laptops are actually kind of easy to upgrade ram. When you see one that you’re going to buy, look up to see if you can upgrade the ram. This way you could go with a lower ram and then upgrade later. 32gb of laptop ram is fairly cheap on Amazon.

Super beginner question! Hope you can still help seeing as this video is a year old… what’s a daw? Do I need it? If so why? I’m having issues downloading the software from the website.

DAW stands for digital audio workstation. This is typically the software that you use to record and edit your audio with. If you’re a musician this is where you’ll record and mix your tracks. If you’re a podcaster or something like that this is where you’ll record your voice and any guests voices too. Then you can edit and add things in. Do you need one? Only if you plan on recording and editing audio. If you are just live steaming with your interface and have no interest in recording then a DAW would be pretty much useless to you. If you plan on recording and editing then yes you absolutely should get one. There are lots of free ones available and depending on the audio interface you have, it may have come with one or two. Hope this helps.

Just bought the interface today. But I have an issue. I plugged my amp into the interface and interface into my computer but I cannot hear the sound come out of it. However, if I plug my headphones into the interface, I CAN hear the sound. So the Mackey speakers are not optional, right?
@AudioTechTV
Жыл бұрын
The speakers are optional if you only want to use headphones with it. But if you want to hear sound through speakers and not headphones then you will need to get studio monitors or speakers to connect to it. You will not hear any audio through your laptop’s speakers. When you connect the audio interface it becomes your sound card. Your audio no longer goes through your onboard sound card which is connected to your laptop speakers.

What about podcasts if you are not recording music and are a nube in technology
@AudioTechTV
9 ай бұрын
If you’re just recording podcasts then you can connect your interface to your computer with the included usb or usb c cable and it should install a base driver or prompt you with an installer walk through. Once it’s been installed (most do it automatically within like 10 seconds). Connect your microphone to the mic preamps using a XLR cable. Connect your headphones to the front, set your mic levels with the gain knobs on the interface or use the auto gain feature if your interface has it and record in whatever software you choose. You can connect speakers/studio monitors to the outputs on the back if you want to playback your audio through speakers or just listen to music and videos through the speakers but it’s optional. A pretty straightforward setup.

do you need those studio monitors? can you only connect the interface to the computer and then use only headphones to hear your instrument? or better yet hear through your computer's built in speakers?
@AudioTechTV
Жыл бұрын
You don’t need studio monitors you can connect the output to regular speakers or just leave them disconnected. You can use just headphones connected to the interface if you want. If you think using your computers built in speakers are better than using monitors or headphones maybe you don’t need an audio interface. If you want to route audio from your interface and have the output through your built in sound card then you can use a driver like Asio4all which allows you to route audio between audio devices.

Will You Do Beginner Video? How do I plug Korg Kross 88 Midi Key-board workstation into Windows 10 (usb midi) or 2i2 audio plug? I want to hear software sound come FROM (Win 10 Desktop) directly INTO (Korg Kross keyboard) as I play. (Must capture organ sound going into the Korg). I need to Record directly into my Korg Kross instead of Cakewalk or Pro… I emailed IK Q&A: it’s their Hammond B-3X organ software. Wanted direct sound to go into Korg 88 keyboard so I can record their organ as I play my keys to Korg card track (it’s a music workstation) so I can create a beautiful organ recording at home. I have midi & Audio plugs! Show USB & Focusrite 2i2 3rd Gen red box? Whichever? I was sold 2i2 but not told I couldn’t plug midi keyboard into it. I want that great organ sound to record into Korg from my Dell Win 10 that has the installed Hammond B-3X software. How to plug in to Korg workstation to hear & do a recording of organ sound, nothing like a Hammond B-3X! Just sound going straight into keyboard. I don’t understand the pre-answered email Q’s from IK or ( maybe Focusrite 2i2 is not needed ??) Please just do simple style video of plugging in both midi & show how organ software sounds are able to get into keyboard from Win 10 Desktop. Thanks much!!!

How do I use the 2i2 to record myself playing a bass guitar along with a backing track? I get how to record the guitar but how do set it up so I can hear the backing track and the bass while I play the bass, and both are recorded?
@AudioTechTV
Жыл бұрын
You'll need a multitrack recording program (DAW) there are some free ones you can see in this video kzitem.info/news/bejne/tqRs3omne4mEmGU Once you pick out the software it's as easy as putting a backing track onto one track in your software and then recording onto another track. You should install the ASIO driver for the 2i2 if you haven't already. It will give you lower latency so you can record in time with your backing track.

what are the cables that connect the speakers to the interface ???
@AudioTechTV
Жыл бұрын
The cables needed would depend on the type of connections on your studio monitors/speakers and the type of connections on your audio interface. Most audio interfaces will have balanced outputs with 1/4”jacks. So ideally you would want a balanced cables with a 1/4” male ends for the interface. Some monitors/speakers have 1/4” connectors, some have xlr and some have RCA. Get whatever cables work for your setup.

Please sir, after installing my focusrite 4i4 everything thing works except the headphones which is not is not playing.how may I solve the headphones issue 🙏
@AudioTechTV
2 жыл бұрын
The 4i4 has a separate volume for the headphones. Make sure that’s turned up. It might be possible that the headphones were muted in the Focusrite control software. You can check that. If that all looks good. Try disconnecting the 4i4 from your computer and plugging your headphones directly into the computer instead of the 4i4 and see if they work when connected directly. Just to make sure that the issue isn’t with the headphones. If your headphones require a 1/4” adapter in order to plug them into the 4i4, make sure the headphones are plugged into it all the way. If there is a way for you to test the 1/4” adapter with something else, you should do that to make sure the issue isn’t due to the adapter not working.
