Thank you! I love these type of headphone reviews, and always value your opinion. Would you consider reviewing the Neumann NDH 30? They were released last year and have flown under the radar for the most part, but lots of people seem to be giving them outstanding reviews with claims that they apparently totally negate Sennheiser's new HD 660S2 in terms of value and performance and are even preferred to the entire HD6X0 range and HD800S.

hello oluv, thank you for the insight for more underground headphones like the sr50bt, i had recently purchased one and it's on it's way. I have questions about aptx, does bluetooth audio quality differ depending on the codec you use? I use spotify premium mainly and i intend to use the bluetooth feature of the sr50bt striaght to my iphone12pro when i'm on the go. thx for any insight! Absolutely love your content!
@mydogskips2
11 ай бұрын
AptX is a Qualcomm standard, a feature of their chipset, and if you don't have a Qualcomm chip in your phone, I don't think you can get AptX or any of its variants. According to GSM arena, the iPhone 12 Pro is NOT AptX compatible. Also, to use a specific Bluetooth codec, BOTH devices need to be compatible with said codec, so not only would your phone have to be capable of transmitting it, the receiving device(headphones or speaker) needs to be able to receive and decode it as well, and I'm not sure the SR50bt does(decode AptX). Based on a bit of research I've just done, A2DP looks to be the Bluetooth protocol in use and LC3 may be the specific Codec used in the iPhone 12 Pro. Unfortunately, I don't think you're going to get the highest res music streaming, but on the bright side, I don't believe Spotify Premium supports Hi-Res streaming anyway, so if that's what you use, it really doesn't matter(you're paying for Ad-free, unlimited skips, and offline playback, NOT higher bitrate streaming) and perhaps more importantly, I would also question whether people can really tell the difference between a good 128k, 320k stream vs. a higher bitrate. I've had trials of Tidal Premium, Qobuz, and Amazon HD, all of which offered high-res streaming, and honestly, even when using fairly decent headphones, Sony WH1000XM3 and Audio Technica Ath A900X wired, I heard little to no difference compared to streaming songs through KZitem, and KZitem has a VERY low limit for the audio bitrate of video uploads, only 128k, and I've often found KZitem uploads that sounded BETTER than Tidal Premium and Qobuz, you just need to search and listen to a few videos to find them. All I can tell you is, forget the codec, just try to listen to the music and be happy, because if you want to get "better" wireless/Bluetooth sound, you'll need to change both your phone and the streaming service you use. Also, if you want the best quality sound, in my opinion, you should use a wired connection. I know it's not as convenient as Bluetooth wireless(I only listen at home so it's not a big deal for me), but I really believe my $5 USB-C dongle DAC connected to my phone(I have a Samsung Galaxy S21) wired to my headphones via 3.5mm audio cable, sounds better than using them via Bluetooth, even using LDAC, the highest bitrate Bluetooth codec which should provide the highest theoretical sound quality, and I don't care about ANC, but that's just me. P.S. Okay, I just checked the Audio Technica website to get more info on these headphones(I also just ordered a pair myself but have not yet received them and want to know when they were discontinued) and it says that they can do AptX decoding along with AAC (and SBC) but still, if your phone doesn't have a Qualcomm chip it most likely won't transmit AptX, so you probably won't be able to do it using your iPhone 12 pro, but check your phone and do a search online, I could be wrong. And to answer your question, yes, Bluetooth codecs probably do have some effect on sound quality, but I would guess it's probably not as big as many think, and I would still suggest what's most important is finding the best recording of the source material, one that was well mastered for the best sound quality, and uploaded well, in order to get the best streaming experience.
