Thanks for viewing Danny. This video was done a while ago and it's still working great on my end. Dean

Great video, thanks. If you don't remove the short screws the whole gear box will come off saving a lot of steps and some mess. However you won't be able to inspect and grease the gears if you think that is needed.

Good video. I wouldn't of been able to resist to take the opportunity to clean out old grease and re-grease everything with some good new synthetic 00 grease. But thumbs up! I didn't realize it was such a straight forward process!

That grease needs to be something equivalent to marine grade wheel bearing grease with "EP", which means extreme pressure. ‘Ordinary’ grease, such as Lithium won’t do, partly due to the higher temperatures where ‘ordinary’ grease stops being a grease and partly because it might decompose at the high surface pressures in this type of gear box... just a tip 😀

I just came here to out of curiosity as the auger I hired today was indeed suffering from a burnt out clutch, all it was doing was screaming if I tried to engage it on the ground - it would engage if we held it up, but would then stop and start screaming before it made any digging progress. We dug the holes the old fashioned way, and I took it back to the hire place and told them the clutch was gone, he was skeptical but did give me my money back. I asked him when the last time the clutch was replaced and he could not tell me! It wouldn't go into reverse at all, so that also confirmed to me the clutch was gone - I'm familiar with clutches in other equipment but have never done one in an auger.

I'm sorry you had to dig em' the old fashioned way. That sucks. I guess it's some consolation you got your money back.

@@PilotViewProductions Well it's beer-o-clock here in New Zealand so it's all good now! This was a great video by the way - I'll possibly never have to replace an auger clutch, but I love learning how things work regardless so thank you!

Engine revving but auger would not turn, or would not turn with enough torque to dig a hole.

Sorry, I don't quite understand the question Bobby. Are you referring to the clutch bolts cause the new clutch itself was installed in the same orientation the old one came off.

@@PilotViewProductions I didn't understand after you tight end the first bolt you said something about spinning it. I didn't know what direction you turned before tighting the second bolt down I just put mine in and I must of did it right because after messing with carburator after putting clutch in seems to work now. Thanks for replying back

What does the auger do to indicate a clutch that needs replaced?
@PilotViewProductions
4 жыл бұрын
1: Put the auger on the ground where the hole needed to be. 2: Pull the throttle trigger and the engine revs up but the auger either doesn't turn or doesn't have the energy from the engine to dig the hole even though the engine revs up.

@@PilotViewProductions mine keeps turning even when Im not giving it gas?
@PilotViewProductions

@@mosinnagantfan That's actually a good sign. It may turn slowly at idle but if it's turning very fast, perhaps the idle needs adjusting down a bit. The worn clutch only comes into play if the auger won't dig under load yet the engine revs as though it is digging. If you've ever experienced an automatic transmission that's going bad in a car, the principle is the same. Engine revs up but the car won't move even in drive.
