Thanks for the encouragement Nicholas. We do the videos as a hobby, no monetary gain or sponsorship, so it's great to know that the information we share is of interest to others and does encourage us to keep going. The best thing for us is that we are free to say what we really think about the products we review (either good or bad) 😊 We will certainly have a look at your videos as well, you just never know what you'll learn when you take the time to listen to other peoples ideas and opinions 👍

Hi Craig, Loving all your videos and seeing all your additions! We picked ours up last week and just love it! Would you mind telling us what tv antenna you use?

Hi Carly, we went in a different direction with our TV setup, we are streaming everything so have not bothered to install or carry a TV antenna. To summarise, I converted an Apple TV to 12 Volt and installed a VanConnect router for wifi and internet connection. We have Foxtel at home so with our setup in the van, we can stream Foxtel from the Foxtel go app and airplay it to the TV screen, we also have the choice of watching movies from our Apple TV or airplay directly from a laptop of mobile phone as well as the free to air channels via the free streaming apps on Apple TV and any other streaming subscription that you might want to use (eg Prime, Binge, Netflix etc etc) We will do a video on this subject in the near future 👍

Amazing hybrid. How does the 100 LC go towing it? Must be a fair bit heavier than the Opus 2. Do you still have the Opus or have you sold it? Great content, keep it up ✌️

Hi J M. The 100 series does pretty well, we sold the OP2 and the Prado is also on the market. We probably could have made it work with the Prado but weights were on the limit even with just Anett and I in the vehicle. So we decided to get the Cruiser. It’s the 1HD-FTE turbo diesel and we’ve found it to be pretty happy on the highway at 100-110kph. It pulls pretty well on the hills but I do find myself manually pulling it back a gear on the steep ones but haven’t found ourselves under 80kph on the highways. We’ve yet to put it off-road but intend to do the sand drive Beachport/Robe once we get down to SA on this current trip 👍

Hi Craig, picked my CX3 up recently and really enjoying it. Getting used to it and your vids are very helpful. One query if you could reply please. How have you found it to tow? I have encountered a bit of trailer sway . Thanks Peter
@AusCamping
Жыл бұрын
Hey Peter, thanks for your comment. Anett and I are always happy to hear that our videos are of interest. Regarding towing, we have found the CX3 to tow really well, however you do need to run it at higher tyre pressures. The reason for this is that you have off-road tyres on the van and although they are light truck tyres, they still have a fairly tall sidewall that is designed to flex when off-road. Of course, when you’re on the highway, this sidewall flex can contribute to sway. If you check the sidewall, you will find that the tyres are rated for 80psi at max load so you’ll have absolutely no problem with running them at 50-60psi. You will probably also want to increase the rear tyre pressure on your tow vehicle as they are also being influenced by the extra weight. Every vehicle is different so you’ll need to experiment but to give you an idea of how we run when we are fully loaded and towing with a 100 series landcruiser, front 40psi rear 50psi, CX3 60psi and we’ve got airbag spring helpers in the back of the cruiser which I also run at 50psi when we’re towing. That’s for the highway and it takes care of any sway for us but of course you don’t want to go down a corrugated track at those pressures so you drop to your preferred off-road pressures (the trailer too) and drive to the conditions. The other thing that contributes (dangerously) to sway is insufficient tow ball weight. Get yourself a basic hitch scale from supercheap auto or similar and find out what your hitch/ball weight is. Rule of thumb is to aim for 10% of the trailer weight. So if your CX3 was fully loaded to its ATM of 2800kg, then you’d be aiming for a hitch weight of 280kg. Too much and too little hitch weight on the towbar of the tow vehicle are both bad, but too little is the biggest danger as it can cause unrecoverable sway which will quickly see you out of control. This video is well worth a look kzitem.info/news/bejne/q5t7q3drnoh_dqA

Hey there, we looked at a few different options and settled on the “VanConnect” from “Cowfish Technologies”. We felt that this was the best choice and will do a full review of the product and our installation in the near future. In the meantime, there is lots of good information available on the Cowfish Technologies website 👍

Where did you get the suction cup holders. Did you get the diesel heater installed through Starvission. Love your videos as we have the same van. Been great to watch, cheers Daniel

Hi Daniel, the suction holders are "FusionLoc" available from Bunnings and they do a big range of various holders, shelves etc. If you have a look at the other videos on our channel, we talk about and do a demo of the FusionLoc product about 3 minutes into the "StarVision CX3 Pro - Storage Ideas" video. The diesel heater I installed myself, we purchased it from Aussie Outback Store and you can find out more about that in our "Diesel Heater Installation" video. 👍

Great walkaround and I do like that kitchen. I'm 6F2 and you look tall - is standing under the opened door while cooking an issue?
@AusCamping

Thanks for your comment, I moved the strut mount about 50mm to make the door open a bit higher, I mention it in one of our other videos. Simple mod, drill out the rivets reposition and rivet into new position, then I put rivets into the original holes so it looks good. End result is that I have now problem with the door even with my hat on. Of course, you could also use a leveling ramp to raise the whole van if it was a problem.

Thx for the prompt reply mate - appreciated. Also had a good look @ your video for the Frost van - am looking @ 2 person setup and do a bit of beach so a 13 would probably give me less issue in the sand/ramp angles. The Frost 13 looks the goods enough for me to check it out - I like the AC unit as well for offgrid - it has a night setting that uses bugger all power and knocks the humidity out - important here in QLD often :). I use folding panels as well but with a victron charger so I can series the panels up and run a longer lead - higher voltage means less current/voltage drop via the extension lead and you can use longer runs of same cable - get them further out from the van into the sun - I had an enerdrive unit which is limited to the panel voltage not able to do this so added a victron - works in well with the shunt as well - just thought you might be interested @@AusCamping

Is this the same as the bluetongue hybrid camper?
@AusCamping
Жыл бұрын
At first glance, they do appear to be the same and there is another brand that also has a similar design. We have looked over all 3 brands at different shows and the StarVision one is ahead of the others in quality, fit and finish. We also did our own search into the different “copies” and found that while most companies are simply buying and importing from China and then fitting out in Australia, StarVision actually own their own manufacturing facilities in China, so their design and manufacturing starts with the Australian market in mind. Then the manufacture in their own facilities and only supply themselves.

Bluetongue XH15, Star vision CX3, Emu Campers Expedition so far. All with some variations. Are the coming from the same factory?
@AusCamping
Жыл бұрын
No, not coming from the same factory. If you have the time to research each of the companies, only one of them owns their own factories in China. They build their own product from start to finish. The other companies are importing copies and self branding/reselling.

Hi Chris, I'm not familiar with Lifestyle Campers but my research on Starvision revealed that they are made in China but they are owned and managed (including the Chinese factories) by an Australian Citizen. I can also confirm that Starvation are the Manufacturers of their own range and Manufacturers within their own right. For us, it was a happy balance of price and quality 👍

@@AusCamping sure, print is important, but a buying product that is a blatant copy is not cool. You can buy the copies from china directly for under $10k for a matter of interest. I’m involved in an Australian camper trailer company and one of the trailers is being copied and I approach them as customer and they can sell me a copy of our high end camper for USD4800 and our cost is just over AUD30k. They think they are doing a good thing!

@@christurner68 unfortunately, manufacturing in Australia began dying many years ago and I say that as a tool and die maker by trade who was very involved in the manufacturing industry before it died. For what it’s worth, my trade isn’t even taught anymore in Australia, such is the decline of the Australian manufacturing industry (in general) I can’t comment on your claims of copying as I only comment in facts and do not know one way or the other. On the other hand, if you are involved in manufacturing and wish to protect your design, that is what copyright is for. If you don’t copyright and you manufacture a desired item, the. You can guarantee that someone else will copy it. Even the humble potato peaked has many different copies.

@@AusCamping copyright has no status in China. I know right this country has f@cked big time with our education. It is hard to find a good tradesman anywhere. Back in the day you could take up a trade at the local tafe. I went to do welding course to find out that there is only one tafe in nsw that teaches welding now. Why is there so many bad reviews about this one?
@AusCamping
2 ай бұрын
Well, this is just my opinion, but it is a Chinese import (like many others these days) so you should expect to do a bit of DIY to get it set up exactly as you want it. Unfortunately, not everyone is willing to to that, but still, they buy a van for $60K and then give bad reviews when they find that it doesn’t compare to the $120K van that they really wanted but couldn’t afford. Add to that, that Starvision hasn’t really had a very consistent after sales service with warranty repairs etc, then you get additional poor reviews from those who have been let down by customer service. As you can probably tell from our other videos, we do our own upgrades and modifications to suit our needs, if anything needs fixing, then we do it ourselves because it’s faster and less stressful than chasing Starvision for minor issues. It’s still a good van, in fact we are living in it full time at the moment and quite likely will be for the next year while we are building in WA. However, if we were buying again today on the same budget, we would not go with Starvision. You might be interested in having a look at “Arctic Campers”, they have a better quality finish, better quality inclusions, and a very positive customer community group on Facebook. By all accounts, their customer service and after sales support is excellent.

Just wondering how often you use the shower? It looks very cramped and having it combined with the loo appears impractical. Thanks for sharing Mick
@AusCamping
Жыл бұрын
We also have another shower outside and we use both. Combined shower/toilet is a common solution on many compact campers, caravans and also boats. Remember, you’re camping and if you’re off-grid, then you have 200L of water before you need to go looking for more. So it’s water on to get wet, then it’s water off while you lather up and wash, then water on to rinse off. The aim of the game is to use as little water as possible. As an off grid camp shower, it serves its purpose perfectly and it’s nice not to have to go outside if it’s a cold evening or morning. If we’re in a caravan park, and I want a “real” shower, then I’ll go to the amenities block since I’m paying for those facilities anyway.

If you prefer seperate shower/toilet and an ensuite basin, then perhaps the CX4 or PX3 or PX4 would be better for you.
