Was intitially bidding on another lot a Daimler Conquest Century also 1950's in black with red upholstery but as online bids on that resto project car rose I dropped out and looked again at the other low price projects. This 2 owner A30 with a BMC "Gold Seal" 1098 A series upgrade looked promising and the triple luck 888 registration was an added attraction along with service history, recent tyres, steering joints , brakes (even including resleeved m/cyl), SU pump, carb overhaul, full clutch, carpets etc. It was down on its luck though having had the front number plate broken off, some closing panel decay evident in boot area past NS rear spring hanger (could see right through to road!) and though driving in the presale video was non-op on the day and had the added indignity of being pushed through. This probably made all the difference to getting it as my limit was £1500ish or about £2kish here. It was £1400 on the hammer making a total of £1592 to ACA because of minimum commission and vat thereon plus Shiply transport to Scotland of £492. I have the facilities/skills to sort the minor structural issues at modest cost but it can be time consuming. I don't think these welding jobs are an immediate priorty. More vids to follow. I should add that I was very much inspired by HubNut's excellent video of a well sorted A35 2 door with 950 engine. Steph of "I drive a classic" also gave a big thumbs up to these baby Austins. After I have it sorted it will have a lady driver and her two dogs and I shall get in return the less practical 1275 A series Pilgrim Bulldog. More vids to follow and of the Rickman Space Ranger too which is now driving around on private ground here pending internal trimming and some paint if the weather ever gets warm and dry. These last 6 months have been superb for hydropower generation here at the old water mill but not a nice dry environment for classics.
