This time we’d like to share Mama’s sister’s wedding ceremony and reception with you. There are some differences between Japan and Australia so please enjoy those as well.
Unlike in Japan, in Australia a celebrant authorised by law is required to be present at the ceremony and the documents signed during the ceremony are legally binding. In Japan, the legal part of marriage is done at city hall and weddings are actually just for show and celebration. You might expect the celebrant’s words to all be serious, but often ceremonies are filled with joy and laughter.
People who couldn’t join the ceremony in person, such as Papa and the girls and GG, were able to join the ceremony remotely via zoom which Mama set up.
Following the ceremony, the couple took photos, and then came the reception. In Britt’s case, both were held in the same place, at Linton Gardens. The way food is often served at weddings in Australia is different to Japan, so please take a look.
The speeches by the mothers of the bride and groom were moving and quite funny, so we’ve included them both (even though they are a little long) so we hope you enjoy them.
Following the speeches came the cutting of the cake, with a tower of cupcakes with images representing the way the couple met.
Lastly, the couple”s first dance, what many would call the main event of a wedding in Australia. Once the couple open the dance floor, everyone is invited to join them and the dance party continues late into the evening.
This wedding was the main reason for Mama’s visit to Australia, and she was so happy to be able to go.
