Kakadu to Katherine: Crocs, Culture, and Fast Cars
Half Lap of Australia: Episode 5 - Top End Adventures 🌟🚐
Welcome to the fifth episode of our Half Lap of Australia series! Join us, Megan, Stuey, and our girls Evelyn and Thea, as we continue our epic family road trip through the Northern Territory's Top End. Plus, Stuey's parents are along for the ride!
Day 14:
We kicked off the day with a drive up to Ubirr (Kakadu National Park) to marvel at the fascinating rock art and take in the stunning lookout views. We spotted another bushfire in the distance, reminding us of the raw beauty and power of nature. Ubirr is a place of spiritual significance, and we felt so grateful to explore this sacred area.
After Ubirr, we tested Stuey's driving skills at the infamous Cahill Crossing. It was a bit nerve-wracking with the river teeming with saltwater crocodiles, but we made it through! Don't miss the close-up footage of the crocs snapping at us!
We ended the day with a serene sunset cruise on the Yellow River, where we were treated to plenty of wildlife sightings. It was the perfect way to wind down after an adventurous day.
Day 15:
We headed back to Katherine, making a stop at Leliyn (Edith) Falls. We hiked to the top pool for a refreshing swim under the waterfall. Thea insisted on getting right underneath it-definitely a top swimming spot worth visiting!
After a day of hiking and swimming, we switched things up a bit. The girls took their Pa (Stuey's dad) to the Katherine Speedway for some fast-paced fun. Their Nanny (Stuey's mum) stayed back at the caravan park but could hear the excitement from there!
If you're unsure about road-tripping with kids, this video is a must-watch. Seeing all these amazing locations and experiences through their eyes is truly amazing.
Next Episode:
Stay tuned as we spend a bit more time in Katherine. We'll take an early morning cruise at Nitmiluk National Park, check out the renowned Katherine Hot Springs (a bucket list spot for me!), and then hop, skip, and jump across the NT border into Western Australia. We'll start to discover why they say "West is Best" as we visit Lake Argyle and Kununurra.
