Best wishes for Year 12. It can be a tough year but I think you will ace it. As to PT...well, Melbourne has a very good system what with our extensive tram, bus and train service BUT there are still many shortcomings. The Rowville corridor needs an extension of the train line from the Cranbourne line (junction at Huntingdale station) to the intersection of Stud and Wellington roads. The large median road reserve on North Road/Wellington road was set as it is so that just such a line could be accommodated. In the 60s the then "Country Roads Board of Victoria' allocated the median strip so that VR could extend the line but it never happened. The planners reasoned that a train stop was needed at Monash University but Henry Bolte, the then premier, nixed the idea by withholding funding. I also have to say here that i am not anti-car. Nothing will replace the convenience of having your own motor vehicle to travel where and when you want. I am hopeful, given that countries like China have decreed that EVs must form the bulk of vehicle transport within a decade, that cars will be less polluting and made from more sustainable materials. I'm also hoping that a price drop for ride services like Uber encourages more ride sharing... Who knows, maybe self driving "Johnny Cabs" as in "Total Recall" may become a real thing. The problem with our road network is that funding is constantly redirected from budgeted repairs to other government programs. This has caused our rural roads to basically fall to bits, even to the point where speed limits have been dropped on many roads to prevent accidents due to cars being sent off track by potholes and root humps. It also takes us ages to get roads built or fixed. It is FARCICAL that the Monash duplication program has been going for over a year now and when you drive on that freeway it seems that there aren't many workers doing much. By way of contrast Chinese workers can build a 100km of freeway in three months. In India they recently completed a huge freeway upgrade that took all of six months. Now whether our workers aren't as productive, or there aren't enough of them or contractors drag out completion times to milk the government I don't know, but the situation stinks and it's just shameful for an advanced economy like ours. The drive back from Melbourne Airport to the city is dreadful, the freeway is in total disrepair and it is a disgraceful way to introduce overseas visitors to our state. Sorry for the long rant but you have picked a subject dear to my heart. :)

Welcome back Max. First of all well done on this. It could almost actually pass for a government promo video it's that professionally made. Secondly, would love to see this come to fruition. Well, after the other train line/Vline videos are done of course, and prehaps even a tram lines series (a lot of history in tram lines). Buses would be a great deal more difficult, but you could turn it into a long term project. Go from The Train Man to The Transport Man, would be fitting if this series got off the ground actually. Keep up the good work man, for a kid as young as yourself the content is quite impressive and you absolutely deserve the amount of subscribers you have (if not more, which I'm sure you'll get). You remind me a lot of young me, I used to love trains as a kid. Can still remember back in the Connex days taking trips on a Sunday into the city from Yarraville & Footscray, and then back to either of those two or on some occasions West Footscray (back before it was rebuilt) back when my nan used to live around there. But I got older, got a bunch of mates and lost any interest or energy to take it further. One of my favourite channels. Glad you're back and hope you're well.

Hey fella been a while. Got a mate who has reached a fairly senior position in transport.vic.gov and is privy to a bunch of stuff. While we were grousing about PTV getting their bonuses for reaching punctuality standards last year (not like it was hard), he said they really needed them, as much of their revenue comes from ticket sales. They were _this_ close to folding or declaring bankruptcy, and in vic.gov transport contingency plans had been drawn up to de-privatise them and bring them back under state running. Can you bloody imagine.

@@krisdevalle - I never could understand why politicians think that private companies can do a better job in operating public transport better than rate/tax payer owned entities considering that private companies its about profit and cheaper labour. This raise the question is the tax payer getting value for money under the current neolbiberal economic and governance model? In my country, the current regionalised, uncoordinated, dysfunctional urban PTOM (Public Transport Operating Model) is about city and regional councils going for the cheapest bus/rail urban contracts where bus drivers and train crews are paid essentially the minimum wage and having minimal working conditions. At least our current government has seen sense and is working to make sure low wage employment contracts must be incorporate living wages and better working conditions.

Melbourne already has the finest public transport network in the southern hemisphere however if there are some minor problems I would look to cities like Perth, Montreal and Osaka for inspiration. Melbourne has the largest and busiest metro train network in the southern hemisphere so we just need to get the signalling right and minimise train breakdowns.I currently live in Adelaide and I can categorically state that Melbourne leaves Adelaide for dead with trains and buses. Trains in Adelaide are slow and they are prone to breakdowns. Buses here are extremely unreliable. Roads are very poor. Fares here are slightly higher than Melbourne too. The only city that has a more efficient train system is Perth however they only have 6 lines to manage. In 2026 when Melbourne becomes Australia's largest city by population with 6 million we can't have so many vehicles on our roads. The State Govt should introduce a tax bonus/rebate system for people who use public transport to get to work. With regard to the train network, we need to include Mornington, Hastings, Bacchus Marsh, Whittlesea & Healesville in the metro train network.

The roads are out of control in Melbourne now. Was down there a month ago and took 3 hours to make 30km. Problem that public transport faces is high prices. Its almost on par the travel by car then cost of train. Government needs to bring ouf a insensitive that if you use public transport to get to and from work for a year you can be reimbursed 50% of fees or given a discounted yearly pass

Hey man this sounds like a great docco and would love to hear what you have to say as I like hearing other people’s perspectives however I do have something to say, as much as I love Public transport and think that it is a great method of transportation, nothing beats the convenience of having your own car. Because say if I want to get somewhere now, I can just hop in my car and I will be there in no time. Public transport just doesn’t have that same convenice as personal cars do. I mean I’m only 15 but I will be getting my learners permit later this year and can’t wait to learn how to drive a car because I also love Cars as well and one of many things I like. I think there are both sides to this argument and I think having a good balance of both is always the best solution in most cases. Maybe in the future cars will go electric but it could take a little while for the prices of electric cars to go down. But yeah, transport is essential for humans and getting from point a to point b is a priority to any human. Cheers mate
