What a bunch of nit picking, disrespectful and ignorant SOB's. The Australian Army Quick Time is 116 paces per minute with a 75cm pace. These guys a members of the Australian Army Reserve, who volunteer to serve 1 day a week, and some weekends with a 2 week annual camp to a maximum or 100 days per annum, therefore, their valuable time is spent on their core soldier skills preparing for combat, not a bloody drill competition. They most like volunteered to attend a couple of extra Saturdays out of their own time to prepare for this parade, given this they have done very well. You should also keep in mind that a lot of these guys have actually seen active service so you should be thanking them for their service, not finding fault and disrespecting their service. It is extremely difficult to march through city streets and to keep the pace over long distance without a lot of practice, I know I did quite a few in my 25 years as a regular soldier in the Australian Army the last four as Cadre staff in an Army Reserve unit. Even at 64 I still march every year with my Corps Association on ANZAC day and I am very proud to do so even if my drill and marching is not as good as it once was. I would like to see you march 5 or more kilometres on an uneven road surface and maintain a even pace of 116 beats per minute while also trying to listen for commands over all the noise from a crowd and bands. So if you have not served in the Australian Defence Force it is best that keep you uninformed and ignorant opinions to yourself you don't have the right to criticise.

As long as you're swinging your arms, marching in step and halting on the correct foot you're pretty much good to go. Mate, these people are reservists. They come a few days a week, probably only committed a few Saturdays practicing for this March, so they’ve done really well in that respect. They are trained for combat, if you started forcing drill lessons on them they just wouldn’t show up. Keeping in step for kilometres on uneven road ain’t easy

This is a bit surprising. I did some training with Aussies a few years ago. Only other riflemen I have any respect for. Everyone else are shitheads. But half of these troops are nasty fucking fat bodies with muffin tops or scrawny as hell. The dudes I was with were shredded as fuck; not a pound of fat on them. Most probably weighed 220-ish pounds at about a 6 foot average. And they drank me and my boys under the table. After that I can say I was impressed. They were fit and could fucking fight. Brits were cool dudes but were slow and half couldn't hit the broad side of an elephant with a buffalo. Germans couldn't shoot or beat feet. Koreans will pound soju until 05 and then go on a run. Never went on any training missions with them but from what I've heard from the guys who have, they aren't bad. Still, I'm most impressed by the Aussies. Those guys know how to fucking shoot, ruck, and fight.

+cynderfan2233 Only the last unit, headed by the pipe band (almost all of whose members have been on deployment) are infantry. Most of the infantry battalion there have have been deployed multiple times, particularly the younger soldiers. The standards are technically the same, the problem is that no one forces a reservist to do PT every day. From my observation, the older dinosaurs who joined before the Army Reserve got deployments and are happy just passing the fitness assessment at their age bracket have a poor chance of seeing operational service.
