After the battle of Fontenoy, the french took complete control over the austrian low country, and they completely drove the british out of India while beating off multiple attacks on french canada. The french won their part of the war, but gave it back because Louis XV felt it was immoral to gain land by conquest. I kid you not. After the war, the french had a saying "Travailler pour le roi de Prusse" or working for the king of prussia, meaning doing meaningless work. Louis XV traded his conquests in India for Louisberg in Acadia, and then just gave back the low countries for some reason.

Why? For not being a power-mad tyrant like his great grandfather Louis XIV? I think not, this monarch made many great decisions during his reign. France did very well for itself in all the wars it fought during this period except for the Seven Years' War which was arguably his generals' faults for concentrating on meaningless conflicts in the Americas and India instead of taking the opportunity to crush Prussia and Hanover. In addition, Louis XV never made any of the radical and ridiculous civil decisions Louis XIV had made during his reign (such as the revocation of the Edict of Nantes). I hate how Louis XV is always blamed for what happened during the French Revolution. If it wasn't for a ruler has benign and laid-back as Louis XV then France would have been in the same position it was during the reigns of both Louis XIV and Napoleon I, with massive European-wide coalitions arrayed against it. The French Revolution was unavoidable and should never be attributed to the faults of any one person, especially Louis XV

@@Kunumbah1 So I suppose if he was TRULY a great monarch he would've gone on a quest to crush all of Europe's powers and take on the continent without any aid, just like those "noble" rulers of Louis XIV and Napoleon. Never mind if he certainly would have been decimated and would have only crippled France's finances further, anything is worth it for military glory. Makes sense

Basically, Most wars can be sortet into: Austria vs Prussia France vs Germany France vs the British Italy just fighting itself Germany and Austria vs the world (mostly results in italian backstabbing) Entire countries slaughtering each other for a single river Austria vs the Ottomans (only time austria was as strong as it should be) The swiss minding their own damn buisness The Balkans just constantly being on fire Spain... I honestly have no Idea, colonising and fighting itself, I quess The USA being a thing The 2nd most bloody war in human history happening because an austrian was shot And last but not least, wars because they can

1 - Not by 1745. 2 - I didn't mention most battles 3 - I can't tell if you're implying I'm biased. But, just in case, I should mention, I don't really take pride in English wars in the 18th Century. Or many wars really.

1 - by 1748 2 - that isnt most battles that was one of the biggest victory the french had over britain in the whole century 3 - im implying you are a bit anglo centric and anti french let's just say just like all the english you have a tendency to minize or outright deny french victories

But that part of the video is 1745. That comes at 3:25 - and the I mention the Treaty of Dresden at 3:39. So I pretty much summed up the remaining years of war in a sentence later the occupation of Austrian Netherlands did very little to change the outcome of the war. I'll counter - I've done these videos for ages now. I've been called both anti-Serb and anti-Croat, anti-Greek and anti-Turk. Anti-Japanese and anti-Chinese. You get the idea. It usually comes from people who say something along the lines of - "you didn't mention how great we were, why do you hate us?" However, I'm not remarkably patriotic at all. It's just incredibly hard for nationalists to accept that some people don't have the same pride in historical events as they do. I mean why would I care if France won a battle in the 18th Century? Do you think I would deliberately leave that out because I'm anti-French or anglo-centric? I mean if that's the case wouldn't most my videos be about British wars?

while the picture of austrian territories at 0:10 is technically accurate for after the treaty of utrecht, it isn’t relevant for the conflict the video is about. This is because it shows the kingdom of naples as highlighted. while this would revert to what was essentially spanish control in 1738 at the end of the war of polish succession

Lol how? It kept order and benign rule in the most fragmented and complicated part of Europe for over a thousand years. It was a perfect system because everything was about compromising and being fair; it kept most minorities such as the Jews from being persecuted, the peasants from just being steamrolled by the nobility, and consistent and effective protection from enemies such as the Magyars and Ottomans, all of which are accomplishments that many other European nations of the time period cannot live up to. That's why no one ever actually wanted to leave the Empire itself; if an imperial state was fighting against the Emperor, it's because they were trying to obtain something for themselves and NOT because they were trying to break away.
