+Suave Meh I feel like I need to comment and agree with you so CME doesn't stop doing videos like this. Cringe humour (which I loved) aside, how could people be saying this is a flat-out awful interview? Really, everyone learned: Inputs/outputs, knob parameters, how to change the tape, the range of sounds available, what the buttons do...
@slamcrank
8 жыл бұрын
+Suave Meh "Between Two Ferns" is funny because it shines a light on how offensively trite this "style" of interview is. Clearly, CGE lost the plot on that and just thought it was funny for funny sake. It's not. And when it's done for real (as in this interview), it is very disrespectful to the interviewee. And as far as the commenter saying that "we did learn about the product, Zak Aubin -- no, we actually didn't. We did not learn a single thing that we could not have gleaned by simply staring at the front of the damn thing. Why not ask him serious questions? He's obviously spent a serious amount of time developing the piece of kit, why not ask him why? Or at least learn some history of tape echo so that you can have a decent conversation with him about saturation types, wow/flutter, etc. Get it together guys.

This is magnificent. For what it is; a real tape delay with tap, chorus and modulation, $900 is a pretty fair price. I don't know how much the extra tapes cost, but if they're around the $20-$30 range, this would be a great pedal for a studio to own. But if you can shell out almost a grand on a delay, this sounds glorious.

Part of the reason I watch Chicago Music Exchange videos is because of the sense of humor these guys have. @RME76048

The chorus effect is nice. LONG ago, I had a Vox Continental keyboard and an Echoplex. The drive motor of the Echoplex wasn't very good in terms of maintaining a really precise speed and as a result it made a very gentle chorus effect on the keyboard. One day I decided to really push things a bit. I pressed my thumbnail against the rubber drive wheel hard enough to significantly slow it down, then release the pressure to allow it to speed up. With the playback head located really close to the record head (the former slid left and right to adjust delay -- unlike the T-Rex, it was a constant speed motor), I could get some incredible flanging effects modulated just the way I wanted them. Problem was, the motor used in the Echoplex must have been some seriously powerful military surplus jobbie so it took a lot of pressure to slow it down. That resulted in some fairly intense friction and consequent heat buildup in my thumbnail! Didn't take too long to reach the pain threshold! lol. Great flanging -- in a true way, however.

The only thing avoids me of immediate bying this thing. They forgot to implement "tap divide"! When you tapping quarters, and delay rate is set to (for instance) dotted eights. Don't know, why someone still designs tap without divider (like Replicator). And divider without dotted eights (like DL4)

Sounds great. The tape mechanism looks convoluted compared to a Copycat or Space case. Suggests issues of longevity and cost given the tape cartridge rolls in at £25 each, and being unique may result in availability problems in years to come. However it's size will make for convinience.
