Do you have any special interests and what are they?

History is a big one for me. I take a particular interest in specific periods, such as the late-Republican and early-Imperial periods of Rome- Caesar and all the rest, or the 20th century what with its innumerable tragedies at the hands of Fascists and Communists; but I'll soak up anything no matter how obscure or frankly irrelevant. If you want to get granular, I know even more about American history in particular since...I live there and seem to be living through the latest addition to it. A lot of people dismiss it our history as dry or more lately as little more than a string of atrocities; but I don't agree. For every historical atrocity, and I don't deny there are many, you can find orders of magnitude more stories of those who rose against those injustices, and invariably at least made progress. Our history is layer after layer of people and factions who fought for the values we espouse- liberty, independence, fairness, and so on. From the Framers and their war of Independence, to the Abolitionists who beat back and dismantled slavery, to the early Feminists who resisted the overbearing sexism that plagues human history and the boxes we're prepackaged for, to the Civil Right movement that fought to end segregation, to the contemporaneous Gay Rights movement that would labor for fifty years before the courts handed down Obergefell and ten more for the recent Marriage Equality Act, and to the present day with movements advocating for police reform and trans rights. It's a tradition that has never ended, and one I'm proud to be part of. Another interest of mine would be video games and animation. I take particular interest in the classics for the former, from the age of Atari to the advent of motion controls and online play I grew up with, and everything in between. From heights like the Nintendo Entertainment system and its super successor, to obscurities like the Neo-Geo or the Onlive platform. As for cartoons, I'm more interested in the outings of the last decade, and the introduction of long form stories to American animation. A trend that started in what were basically American shonen- shows like Avatar and Teen Titans, to the mystery elements of Gravity Falls in the 2010s, to the more modern outings of Amphibia and The Owl House. The last interest I think is worth mentioning is what is called Linux, in reality technically Linux+GNU- but I know nobody really cares including myself. Linux isn't like Windows or Mac OS where you have the one OS and that's it. Linux comes in an assortment of flavors, and all the pieces can be swapped out. Instead of just downloading an executable, you enter a command in a terminal (command line) to install software from what are called "repositories". There are graphical interfaces, software storefronts (that are the same thing), but I find their libraries leave alot to be desired. There's multiple pieces of software to do this, most famously Apt on the Debian and Ubuntu side of the fence, and Pacman for Arch and its derivatives. The GUI, or "desktop environment" can be swapped out too, and there's a bunch of options there. I'm current experimenting with KDE Plasma, though I used Mate (pronounced Muh-tay) for a long time. There's also Gnome (or guh-gnome), but I don't really use that one. With the advent of software like Proton on Steam, and the porting of Davinci Resolve for my editing, I rarely actually have need for Windows; I only keep that around for the odd fangame or mod installer. I really think most users could get by fine with it these days, and I find it alot more interesting than its peers.

@@izzyj.1079 The history one figures, I always got the impression that's something you were very into. The others are good interests too. I've gone through phases of being into tech stuff, the evolution of operating systems, video games and so on which is kind of related, though you're probably a lot more knowledgeable on certain areas than me. Thanks for sharing

Thanks for sharing! I have the opposite problem with focus... namely, not being able to focus on the things I really want to know more about. It's really, really frustrating.

Can hyper-fixatation be listening to certain sounds/parts of a song/voices on repeat? I find myself doing this constantly, and it's extremely embarrassing, so I try to hide it the best I can. It's compulsive. I find a lot of pleasure in it... like certain instruments in a song i can point every part of the song out and like to hear rhe voices by themselves sometimes

I'm not sure, it could be, or it may be partially a stimming thing as well? When I was little I used to listen to the same songs many times and break down in my head what different instruments were in the song, though I don't do it so much now. I still heavily analyse the chord progressions of songs I hear and nerdy stuff like that though

@@AJponyAPschannel Ah I see, I guess that's because it's a more unusual one for your demographic, but absolutely nothing wrong with it of course
