Getting a special needs child to brush their teeth is extremely difficult especially when they have sensory issues. I will be sharing our daily toothbrushing routine as well as some helpful tips to consider when beginning your toothbrushing routine.
Emmett is 4 years old and diagnosed with severe nonverbal Autism, Epilepsy, Sensory Processing Disorder & Fragile X Syndrome. In the past Emmett would struggle tremendously when it came to brushing his teeth. His sensory issues and low muscle tone made it nearly impossible to put a toothbrush in his mouth. With some recommendations from early intervention OT therapist and trying different toothbrushes we have figure something that’s works for him.
