This video is a complete Disassembly, Tear Down and Troubleshoot of an Inweld welding helmet containing an Auto Darkening Lens. The repair includes a battery modification. This information will apply to most budget welding helmets no matter what the brand, as they contain integral batteries.
Many Auto Darkening Lens Units contain either "integral" or user friendly "replaceable" batteries. The latter is found in "high end" name brand units. For the lower end units the batteries are an "integral" part of the control circuit board and require dissection of the Auto Darkening Lens to gain access. (This video shows you how to do this) Followed by Desoldering of the batteries and in this case modification to accept replaceable AAA batteries. Replacement "button cell" batteries can be sourced and used if needed.
The batteries work in conjunction with the on board "solar cell" to help provide instantaneous power for Lens Operation, and as a safety measure for "blocked" or "low light" situations. Rendering the"solar cell" unable to produce power to the Auto Darkening Lens.
Disclaimer: This video is not intended as "The Be All and End All" of Repair and Fabrication. Rather a "real time" glimpse into an active Repair/Service with what tools, knowledge and motivation were available at the time. One should always take the time to research and verify information presented to them before conclusion. We are human after all.
