Dr. Daniel Kinderlehrer: Utilization of the Cunningham Panel, an antineuronal antibody test for neuropsychiatric symptoms
"I do think the Cunningham Panel™ has great utility in trying to clarify what’s happening in patients … we’re seeing an epidemic of psychiatric problems. And I really think an awful lot of it has to do with neuroinflammation."
TRANSCRIPT:
We often see adults that suddenly develop anxiety disorders and depression, out of the blue, no family history, no stress-induced phenomena, and what’s going on there? Why are they suddenly having panic attacks? I think it would be great to get a Cunningham Panel™ on those individuals.
This autoimmune inflammation of the brain is not limited to kids who meet the case definition for PANS [Pediatric Acute-onset Neuropsychiatric Syndrome]. And that the Cunningham Panel™ has a lot of utility in evaluating these patients in whom the etiology of their neuropsychiatric disorder is not clear.
Suddenly you see all these antibodies show up. There’s a physiological problem here.
I do think the Cunningham Panel™ has great utility in trying to clarify what’s happening in patients, you know we’re seeing an epidemic of psychiatric problems. And I really think an awful lot of it has to do with neuroinflammation.
