Good to see you making videos every now and again! When I was younger, I watched your videos quite a bit, and they made me appreciate fire alarms! I have a teeny-tiny collection of them! I have a Potter PBA12010 10 inch, 120 VAC bell! I believe that that is the LOUDEST bell model in the product line! It works very well (It plugs into an outlet, the moment it's plugged in, it starts ringing, only tested it once by the way)!

Very interesting video. From the outside, it looks like they did what the smaller Simplex 2001’s did but better. Definitely a unique panel

I’ve actually seen one of these systems in the wild before! It was in a small grocery store in Martha’s Vineyard Massachusetts. The pull stations were the same as the one in the video. Same thing with the horn/strobes, except they were surface mounted and didn’t have that trim ring around it. It also had a bunch of heat detectors throughout the store (I didn’t see any smoke detectors) and there was an annunciator right in the store’s entrance. The panel was at the back of the store in a small hallway that lead to the bathrooms and the employees only area. This was back in 2015 and I remember wondering what the heck the panel was!

Someone is selling an MDE which is the larger version of the panel with 2 rows of cards. Id buy it but it’s missing the cabinet. I’d say despite how cool the 2001s are, these are much better all around as they are much more user friendly.

Thought you'd forgotten all about demonstrating/showcasing this panel, thanks for doing so! You think Federal Signal actually tried knocking off the design of the 2001 which is why it's so similar to the latter? One thing I noticed is that the LED covers appear to be the same as those on a lot of 80s-era Hochiki smoke detectors (the "wiffleball" ones that companies like Simplex rebranded). 0:59 "MD2" & "MDK"? What's with the inconsistency with the model numbers? (heck I would have assumed the larger model to be something like "MD3") 1:20 Seriously? Well that was just stupid design (Simplex managed to somehow make the power supply on the 2001 not take up _any_ card spaces!). 1:45 As loud as the one on the 2001? (even looks & sounds like the same one too!) 1:48 I don't know about most other panels of the era but the 2001 had one as well, so not really that unique in that regard. Why would the switches on the zone cards have dedicated "TBL" positions though? (I can understand "DISABLE" like on the 2001 but not "TBL", unless that's what they do & Federal Signal simply mislabeled them) 2:27 Nearby the building with the MD2 or a building nearby you? 2:57 FWR? (either that or the horn's just acting/sounding weird for whatever reason) 3:16 Use what you've got as they say. It _does_ improve it though! 3:31 So do the ones on the 2001 so again, not that unique. 3:46 That circuit board is in surprisingly good condition for that panel's age! (also noticed that it doesn't rely on jumper wires like the 2001, which might make wiring a _little_ easier) 3:50 Just like the 2001's control card huh? 4:07 Well that was rather advanced for the time! 4:28 All just like the 2001's (simple but effective for sure). Neat! (all the functions of each card) 5:17 Annunciator? You mean to tell me the MD2 supports an annunciator? 5:38 That _is_ neat! 6:14 _Code 3_ card eh? Quite unusual for the time I'm sure. 6:24 Kinda surprised you didn't mention how you've got it in the panel despite not having a remote station to connect it to (though I'm sure you're doing so just to fill up an otherwise empty spot). 6:29 Just noticed that the "card support frame" (very similar to the one on the 2001) is only being held on by one screw. 6:38 Don't mention it! 6:42 Same to you!

How is Federal Signal related to Autocall? I see their products used together a lot and this panel also has the Federal Signal logo on it.
@NewAgeServerAlarm
Жыл бұрын
Federal Signal purchased Autocall in the 1960s and then sold them to Thorn in the late 80s, who then was bought by Grinnell, who then later merged with Simplex.

@@NewAgeServerAlarm I used to watch all your videos when I was a kid! I'm now a senior in high school. I actually went to the same high school as LeBron James, which has a very rare Simplex 4247-2 from 1972; there's a video on my channel about it! Akron had a ton of Autocall, IBM, and Simplex systems back in the day! I went to a Catholic school that had a pull rod with trip gongs and 10 inch single stroke bells from an old IBM system; my dad also went to one with a very similar system; both of which are in Akron.
