Hi Neil. I use Inventor every day but knew almost nothing about surfaces. I now know a bit more than I did. As for showing us the obvious stuff . . .people like me need to be shown so please carry on. ... What may be obvious to one person may not be to another. . . . Really happy with the style & content of these vids so please carry on. . . . . Jim

Excellent, but I'm looking for how to unfold a surface!!. For example, I need to unfold a cylinder (without thickness) with a hole in order to make a cutting template. Isn't this function at Autodesk inventor??

Great as always - Thanks TFI. Have you ever thought to create Nastran video series - it will be an entirely new field and you will be the first.

On a different subject, Can trig functions be used to drive dimension? I have looked in inventor help without any luck. Can you help me out or point me in direction to find information.

Hi Neil! Thanks for your great video again. I've got a problem. I have an assembly and some sides of the assembly is manufactured so I should mark those sides with red or green colour. Is it possible to change the colour of certain faces in an assemly? With the adjust tool I can only change the colour of whole parts. :/

You should be able to change your select button to faces. Select the faces then right click and change the colour in properties.

Just out of curiosity Is there a proper way to convert a solid to a surface? I know of several ways to do this but they all seem a bit hackish ( delete a face without healing, copy the file and derive as a surface)

Can you not just save it as an IGES? . If it's part of an assembly just open the part and export as IGES ?

Hi Neil. You can indeed use Inventor's surfacing tools to do much more than patching up broken imports. Here's a link to a free Autodesk University class on the subject: au.autodesk.com/au-online/classes-on-demand/class-catalog/2015/inventor/cp10847#chapter=0 And here's a link to a tutorial series I wrote a little while back. There's a few new surfacing tools in Inventor since I wrote this, but the theory is still sound: cadsetterout.com/autodesk-inventor-surface-surface-modelling/ Enjoy!
