that Audiodisk might be the product of a small "It's your voice, take it home" kind of studio. You could record 2-3 minutes maximum on a 78 record, anything from greetings, poems, or your singing, usually with piano backing. The recording was available in minutes, and you could take it home, send it to your relatives, or to a studio as demo, etc. The quality was not great, but people loved it because they could recognize their own voices. It was a blooming industry till the reel to reel recorders made it obsolete.

I actually prefer the radio repair videos, as they are more pertinant to modern life. Not to say that CRTs don’t have any use or value (especially as repair knowledge or experience), but you can generally just plug in a radio and get information which makes them useful as standalone appliances. Keep in mind that people are watching from all over the world.

They did make sapphire and diamond stylus on a 'spike' to plug into those carts. Also the el-cheapo steel needles. Being that single ended octal tubes are used, I'd say that set is late 30's, Middle 30's still using double ended tubes, and this set DOES have one of those in there. Being a 4 tube set, I'm surprised that it has a 35Z5, I'd expect a 45Z5, and that might have been the original tube, later replaced by the 35Z5 by someone who didn't have a 45Z5 available.
@olegkostoglotov8800

I've never seen a set with a 45Z5, though I'm sure they are out there, most of the time they seemed to use a larger series dropping resistor to burn off the extra voltage like they did in those Arvin metal radios.

This set is same type of circuit as the 3 tube metal case Arvin set that you were impressed with because it worked with all original components. Arvin sets were made 50 miles from me in Columbus Indiana. If you remember Atwater Kent radios many of them were metal cases. The same engineerthat work for Atwater Kent also work for Arvin later and came up with the metal cased sets. Arvin was and still is an auto parts supplier and had access to metal forming and tooling. It just made sense for them to make a metal cased radio.

Selectivity is always going to be a problem with a TRF of this sort, you need multiple cascading tuned stages to get the selectivity, which works but needs more gangs in the tuning condenser, and more coils, this only has two stages. Sets in the 1920s had at least three, often four, except for some very early sets, each had their own dial to aid in selectivity. So in the end the superheterodyne took over because you needed fewer components to get similar performance to a better designed TRF set. The main reason why so many TRFs were built in the 1920s and early 30s was because of the RCA patent monopoly on the superheterodyne circuit, until the U.S Supreme Court forced them to grant other companies a license. There were crappy superhets too, I've owned a few, four tube ones are usually not that great unless some regeneration is used.
