Finally. What relay is that ? I have a programable double relay it seems it either stays on or stays off but doesn't switch. I have a breadboard with AC 5v power board (not arduino). I need a simple circuit that triggers a switch from a pir sensor. When the pir sensor area is clear I need the motor to switch on and run 10 second (pir adjusted time) then shut off. Arduino is too complicated expensive and overkill and I can't see programming thru my computer with special software hardware thru my internal terminal software writing code for an auto cat door when two relays two pir's one 3v motor on 1or 2 relays should work just fine for running once and a while on AC low voltage.

Hi, In this project, I have used 12V, 400 Ω relay. If I understand you correctly, you need some kind of 10-second timer and you don't want to use Arduino, right? I think such timer is possible to create by using a capacitor that charges or discharges, try to google "timer one transistor", and probably you will find what you need. I don't even know what voltage output your PIR sensor has, and how voltage changes if there is motion or no motion. If I understand you, you need a device that can do this: If no motion, then, turn on a motor for 10 seconds. But what voltage your motor needs? a lot of unknown...

very nice and simple, but please do *not* use bare mains wires like that. Rather, either get a PowerSwitch Tail or a special one socket extension device that has this type of circuit in it, plugs into the wall and has a socket output to drive any mains device. Use this circuit for LED strips only, for your own safety. They're just as bright, can easily be controlled by a relay and use 12 volts.

Nice work but why we need to use a resistor
@ElectricalPro
7 жыл бұрын
Resistor and LDR together make a voltage divider, since the resistance of the LDR is not constant and depends on the amount of light, we have different output voltage from the divider. (Very approximate output voltage from divider: in light 1V, in dark 9V) The voltage from the divider drives the MOSFET, and when the voltage becomes higher than 2.5V the MOSFET starts to conduct electricity and starts to power the relay, and the relay turns the bulb on. Short answer: Without the resistor, the light will be always off. And the opposite: without the LDR the light will be always on.
What is your positive there, is it the red one? my circuit doesnt work, when i plug it the bulb automatically on. Please help,
@ElectricalPro

Yes,, the bulb automatically turned on when i plug in the power supply. Does the light dependent resistor(LDR) has a polarity?
@ElectricalPro
7 жыл бұрын
No, LDR doesn't have polarity. Let's test the MOSFET... for a test, please connect a piece of wire between LDR leads, after that plug the power supply in. Now the bulb should stay off. If your bulb still turns on it means the MOSFET is dead.

Yes, connect a piece of wire from the middle lead of MOSFET to the black wire. In other words, connect a piece of wire from the Gate lead to the Source lead of the MOSFET.

In u'r video u used 1 bulb n in u'r comment 12 v relay could received wattage max 120 W with 10A. So this circuit suitable for home circuit with of wattage max bulbs (led lamp) equal 120W , spec relay 12v 10A. Isn't it ?
@ElectricalPro
4 жыл бұрын
12V marking on your relay means the voltage for the coil of the relay, but the contacts of the relay can work with much higher voltage, 250V in my case. The wattage depends on the voltage. The contacts of the relay can handle 10A max, but Watts=Volts*Amps, so if you going to use 12V instead of 220V as I did, we have: 10A*12V=120W, so YES, in this case, the relay can handle 120W max. But if you use 120V for example 120V*10A=1200W so ten times more... in both cases the current is not more than 10A, but wattage 120W vs 1200W.

Hi, I think it depends on a relay. I've just tested my relay and it can even work with 8V, but for your relay 9V may be not enough. Just connect the coil of your relay to the battery and test it yourself. But I think in order to work reliably 12V relay needs a 12V power source.

@ElectricalPro

Hi, if you want automatically turn the light on in a room, the sensor (LDR) should be Installed outside. If it is not possible to instal sensor outside, then we should somehow make this device differentiate the light from the Sun, and from the light bulb. I know that daylight has a lot of UV, so if we cover the sensor with some kind of UV filter, then it probably will only react to the light from the Sun. But it is just my thoughts.

You can try to replace R1 with a variable 680K resistor, and you will be able to change On / Off threshold. But if the problem that this device needs too much darkness for turning on and too much light for turning off, it is because of hysteresis of the relay. To fix such problem a modification of the circuit is needed. Probably the best solution is to replace 2n7000 with TL431, and chose a correct value of R1, or replace R1 with a variable resistor.

May I substitute 2N7000 with IRFZ44? May I substitute LDR with phototransistor? Greetings from Indonesia
@ElectricalPro
6 жыл бұрын
Hi, yes, I think IRFZ44 will work. But, IRFZ44 has a higher "Gate Threshold Voltage" so maybe you will need to replace 470k resistor with something lower, for example with 220k. But I am not sure that it is necessary to replace the resistor... 470k resistor may work just fine. If you replace LDR with a phototransistor it is not going to work (most likely). LDR is very different from phototransistor, you will need a different circuit for that, so my answer is: no. P.S. Greetings from Ukraine

Just asking , why you dint use a diode? at the relay? some or most of others videos like this use diode to prevent ...... and in your design you dint, please explain ty ;)
@ElectricalPro
6 жыл бұрын
I didn't think about that much, I did not look at other circuits, I just made it myself, that is why. I am still not sure that diode is absolutely necessary, I agree that is a good idea to add it but I think it is not vital. I did try to kill 2n7000 with a relay without a diode, no success, 2n7000 is alive and works fine. Moreover, day/night change is a gradual process, so no voltage spike here. In the future projects that use relays, I'll use a diode, just in case.

The is a lot of information about MOSFETs just google it, please. There no positive/negative terminals, MOSFETs have Gate, Drain, and Source terminals. In our case Source connected to the ground. Ground (GND) just means negative, so it should be connected to the minus of the power supply. If you don't know where is Gate, Drain and Source terminals just google "2n7000 pinout" and look at pictures. If you need full documentation for 2n7000, then google "2n7000 datasheet pdf" and read the pdf file. If you know nothing about MOSFETs, you can watch my short video about them: kzitem.info/news/bejne/xZuYzI6NgnacmoY And use google to find out more. Hope it helps, Good luck!

Hi, BC548 and 2N7000 completely different transistors, theoretically BC548 may work but I didn't test it. BC548A, BC548B or BC548C will behave differently because they have a different current gain. Well, you can try to choose a value of the resistor experimentally. And of course, BC548 and 2N7000 have different pinouts, so you need solder it correctly before turning the device on.

I am little bit confuse. If we setup this on street lights then street light will be start blinking at the time of sunset I/O fully lighten? What is the solution in this case?
@ElectricalPro
6 жыл бұрын
Hi. You just need to set this up in a way so it mostly sees the light from the sun and not from the street lights itself. If it detects light from a street light that you try to control it will start blinking at night... it is because when it is too dark (in the evening) it will turn lights on, but with those lights on it is too much light so it thinks it is day and therefore turns lights off, but when lights off it becomes too dark again, so now it thinks it is night and turns lights on again, and it repeats again and again, and that is why it is blinking.
@wasibilgrami7311

Electrical Projects [Creative Lab] You mean LRD will ignore the other street lights and will only observe direct sun light. Anyway let me try to experiment this at my backyard. Further is there any possibility to connect solar panel instead off LDR. I think Solar panel can do this job with more perfection. What you recommend?
@ElectricalPro
6 жыл бұрын
You will not have any blinking if it senses light from other street light, but it will not ignore light from them. The light from the sun usually is much stronger than the light from street lights, so it may work fine, but it depends. You can also try to put LDR in a box in a way that it only detects light from above (the sun or the sky) and not from sides...because probably the light from your and other street lights go from a side. A solar panel also may work fine, but again it depends on the size... it should provide enough power for the relay even on a cloudy day. The clear advantage here that you only need a relay and a solar panel, and nothing more... I also had this idea with the solar panel but I did not test it.
