@Bitofabreadfiend
2 жыл бұрын
@@DownBad4RK I’m just gonna tell you this now or else I’ll be beating myself up for not telling you. Manual will ALWAYS be healthier than automatic. It also teaches you how to better multi task and it is much MUCH safer if you know how to drive it. Also another thing. If you can drive a manual you can drive anything. Manual transmissions are more fuel efficient than automatic transmissions, they’re less complex which makes them lighter, they have more gears than automatics, and they have a clutch. Which basically means instead of slamming gears into place like an automatic, you have something to effectively give your gears room to slide neatly into place and give you an all-round smoother transition. Manual is ALWAYS the way to go.

In my opinion, automatics are more competitive, like you can focus more into both the turning aspects and how you can learn foot skill such as brake management and how to control wheel spin a lot easier, while manuals are more complex by adding an extra thing to worry about like clutch and a physically gear changes. This could lead to more crashes and hard learning curve. And for the most part most racing "communities" ( autocross, drag racing, and rally) use "automatic/ sequential transmission because they are better faster and more competitive by putting the drive into, in a way, more focus in the "driving

I drive manual in both city and fun (both are fun). I’ve never owned an automatic, nor have I gotten a rental. I’ve gone on 700 mile trips with my Honda (5 speed) and tbh. When you learn it, you get a muscle memory for the clutch and where it engages, and stop and go traffic suddenly isn’t so bad. For me when I go on the George Washington bridge its fine because I don’t have the issue of stalling or trying to feather the gas and all that. It’s just experience.

I currently drive a manual, but my previous car was auto. I’m by no means an evangelist for either type. What I find interesting is that I feel a bit of a stigma for both manual and auto. I mean I have an automatic and I worry about my oil temp and manifold pressure as well. My 2002 Crown Victoria never came in manual anyways. I mean, I know it’s much easier to drive an automatic car, but frankly, slowing down for a corner and being able to devote all your attention to the racing line and braking rather than downshifting is a massive advantage. Modern race cars don’t even have traditional manual gearboxes anymore because having to work a clutch pedal in addition to everything else is inarguably cumbersome and dual clutch transmissions are simply more quick, and can be paddle shifted. I understand the appeal of 3 pedal manuals, but I don’t believe manual supremacists are living in the real world. Automatics have become far more advanced over time, and manuals have barely changed since the 60’s. A modern automatic transmission computer can rev match and operate the solenoid 10x faster than a 19 year olds left foot. It’s time manual enthusiasts accept that they are simply manual enthusiasts, just as automatic enthusiasts are simply automatic enthusiasts, not some all powerful driving gods who are superior to everyone else. I promise you, as someone who has driven both automatic and manual, I’m much quicker in an automatic, and I enjoy driving them far more.

Semi-autos are a vibe though. Like you control the gearing, but you still have both hands on the steering wheel

I love automatic transmission no matter what anyone says, usually people(manual drivers) are either jealous or just manual suckers.

As someone who built an automatic car, people that drive manuals always like to make excuses about shifting when I beat them 😂 the worst are mustang drivers because there are so many out there and they don’t like getting beat by a 2004 lancer that has dents and scratches lmao

Some of us drive a auto because we’ve broke our backs and it hurts like hell to constantly switch gears……

can we talk about drifting versus not having traction or variable direction.

I’m currently learning how to program an automatic transmission so I can build my own. This is part of an 3 year project that I’m very satisfied so far

I will say the big difference between if you want a manual or a automatic just know that you you want manual you will never really get to relax cause you constantly have to put the clutch in and shift and be ready for anything but for automatic you can chill and have fun

As someone who enjoys both it depends on the car some cars are just better with autos something is extremely satisfying about just stomping the gas and laying drag while there’s also something extremely satisfying about dumping a clutch and doing the same thing but just depends on the car and build don’t let this make it seem like one is better than the other because at the end of the day it’s gonna be better than a bicycle

I drive both manual and automatic. And from my experience manual is only good for drifting. You are able to skip gears going around corners. But with automatic you shift instantly. There is no lag.

Been daily driving a manual for 3 years. Even during heavy traffic with the clutch constantly in/out, I love it and wouldn't trade it for an automatic. The feeling of being involved in driving is worth it

On the interstate, beyond the city, you sometimes forget you have a manual transmission. My 90 Cutlass had a Muncie 5-speed manual married to a Quad4. Had that car for 18 years, original owner. Replaced it with a 2008 Sebring hardtop convertible, original owner, which I replaced with a 2019 F150 4X4 Crew Cab, original owner. Now I miss the Cutlass more than the Sebring.

Reasons I drive a automatic 66 mustang: I’m 6’2” and pushing a clutch would be kinda hard for my long legs I didn’t buy the car I inherited it, that doesn’t mean I didn’t build it it just means I don’t have money in the car before that But I am saving up for a ratchet shifter so I will get the best of both worlds

I just bought a 2016 manual s550 in shadow black. Its my 2nd car ever and my first manual car and ill say it was scary the first few days but I’ve had it like a week now and its easier to drive now and its so much fun. I kinda miss having a automatic just because im not 100% comfortable in my new car but i dont regret it whats so ever

I want a manual to save gas. I hate when my CVT won’t shift when I want it to.

Automatics arent bad they just aren’t built to shift well or are slapped on engines that aren’t optimized for automatics. Imo automatics are better for more powerful engines. They actually row through each gear and rarely hunt that bad. On little economic cars theyre always sluggish and shift slowly for comfort.

I am guessing for casual motorsport at your local track, manual will by funner but automatic will be more practical

For the ones that say they got an automatic for daily driving and that traffic is hard to deal with. You’re cheating yourself by saying so. As you daily drive manual, it becomes second nature to you and it’s just as easy as automatic. Now… if you have a heavy clutch set up it’s obviously a different story. But IMO having a manual as a daily also is actually nice

I agree with save the manuals because it is first of all like he said fun but I had an automatic that downshifted into first gear going down the highway

*shrug* A win's a win. If the machine is capable of handling more without as much constant fretting, then I'm free to use the freed up mental space to fine-tune my skills elsewhere.
