Thank you for your shared experience. FYI... I bought my 2006 MegaCab SRW G56 3500 Cummins new and the clutch lasted 200,000 miles. Clearly, I have no major tune or abusive habits but, it is a lot of town driving with highway mixed in. What a great truck! I only wish the tow and bed ratings were higher. A 5th wheel rating of 20k or a bit higher would be helpful. be well!

Swapped my 07 5.9 48re for a G56 about a year ago. Hands down, I prefer the manual. As to what is best... that depends on each individual's use. 48re was okay for a simple daily driver. Gears spread too wide for towing. Often, it was not in the gear I wanted. And no torque converter lockup until 3rd (though I did add a mystery switch). For the G56, towing is awesome. As a daily driver, it's a lot of gears. But I'll take the towing positives all day long.

68rfe here no issues yet. 122k miles towing since day 1. Tuned deleted. Leave it turned down on tow 40hp. I think the main issues with the autos is young kids getting them turning them up high as their tuner will go and beating on them. Or towing heavy in 6th gear lugging the engine/trans.

Another great video. Definitely like the auto for higher speeds. Stock truck power is plenty for what I do.

Also terrain plays a role. Having smooth torque starting off on a steep gravel incline reallly helps. At the same time cruising at certain speeds up incllines the autos really dont know which gear to choose sometimes.

When i see gearbox oil change, I figure: EVs are so practical. Especially in hilly regions with hsirpins, and city roadd.

My truck has the G56 with the 3.42 rear and at 115 mph I still had another 500 rpm before redline. The truck pulls like a locomotive can't drive on went pavement with out spinning the rear tires so I have to Generally put it in 4wd to prevent that. It runs like a beast. And the manual is the better choice over the rfe transmissions in the 2500 4gen trucks all day every day.

Awesome video man. I’ve got a 05 Cummins with a 8in lift and 37s and the 48re is going out. I’m planning on swapping to manual when the auto finally goes out but haven’t decided on a NV5600 or G56. Kinda leaning toward a NV just because I’ve heard it’s a little more stout. But the G56 would be slightly cheaper and easier to find. Any recommendations?

I like both of them. The iron case on the nv5600 adds durability but also adds weight. I like the taller 6th gear on the nv5600 for highway cruising also but with your tall tires you might rather have a shorter 6th gear of the G56. The G56 I like for it’s smooth shifting and the aluminum case helps it dissipate heat as well. Either way you go I think you’re getting a good trans.

I heard a flush was a bad idea for the 48res? Do you always drain but not flush the 48re?

I don't know where outpost lives but I live in Michigan and in the winter my G56 with OEM atf+4 didn't like dropping into 2 nd gear so I switched it out with Amsoil Signature Series ATF and wow what a difference slight pressure and it drops right into gear in the cold winter months. Amsoil was the only lube that made a difference for me in that respect.

I use 6 qts of Red Line MTL-90 and 1 qt Lucas Auto (yes, auto) transmission fixer. The latter was suggested by the clutch manufacturer I chose. Shifting is quite smooth. My bigger worry was rollover noise, which I have almost none.
