What a BEAST of a jig! I guess the tolerances can be fairly loose as the final product has some flex, but the design of the jig was awesome. Of course it would have been completely unnecessary if the Design Engineer hadn't got CAD happy and designed the pipe to take the path of a demented gopher.

If you've ever worked construction you know that sometimes the engineer doesn't have a choice, structural, pneumatic, hydraulic, electrical. I have done rhis kind of job for almost 6 years, it is realy easy to get in to it, basicaly we were learning on these "hand benders" for 1-3 months and than muscle memory kicks in. After two years i could make around 5-7 brake lines in minute. Only reason for this kind of brake lines not being automated is complexity of machine needed to do that job. We had several step CNCs that were bending from start to end step by step. But those werent good in bends larger than 90° the we got fully automate machines that could do some easier shapes in less that 10 seconds for 3m long fuel lines. So in short this kind of job is super hard to automate and human work is superior in these scenarios. Also we "handbenders" got paid pretty well.
