This was such a great video! I definitely will put this museum on my list of things to do next time I'm in Cali. Quick question: did they have any props/costumes/etc from the show Wild Wild West? It's one of my all-time favorite shows, so was curious to know if it was represented at all amongst the others.

I had nearly every Best of the West toy.... all the characters and nearly all the horses... the buckboard, the covered wagon.... I used to play outside with those toys for hours and hours. Wish I still had them, they would be worth something... well probably not, I played with them.... BUT I kept all the boxes and I had all the small accessories. Fun seeing those in a museum. Really enjoyed this one. Thank you, Adam.

Thanks for the tour, Adam. I brought happy memories. I went there with my husband and in-laws back in the 80s after we first arrived here to live in SoCal. My father-in-law was a Tom Mix fan and my mother-in-law was into anything Native American. Sadly, they're not with us any longer. We also went to the 100 yr old Southwest Museum of the American Indian in Mt. Washington here in LA which is also part of the Autry Museum. SWMofAI had been closed for years from damage from the '94 Northridge quake and only one gallery is open to the public on Sats. They're planning on opening a state of the art museum in Burbank in 2019 although friends of the SWMofAI want to revitalize the old museum which is a Nat'l Trust site. Need to go to the Autry since we are only a few minutes from it.

Thanks for the content Adam. Mr Autry bought television station KTLA in late 1963 ( finalized mid 1964) for $12 M . 18 years later he sold it for over $200 M. He also owned a few area radio stations as well. As someone pointed out he also owned the California Angels which he later sold interest to the Walt Disney Company. Disney acquired full ownership of the team upon his death in 1998.

My dad would have loved this place! It's funny being a Gen Xer with Baby Boomer parents, you sometimes forget all the technological advancements they went through in their lives. Both of my parents love westerns. My dad loved The Lone Ranger. He was a radio icon & staple for so many Detroiters like my dad. He was our hometown hero broadcast right from downtown. Then Hollywood came & put him on tv. On tv that opened the world further to people like Gene Autry & Roy Rogers. My Catholic school going dad even wore a Roy Rogers original outfit for school picture day 😄 Great video Adam! Try & stay cool!

That frog on the table is a form of gambling. Players would take turns tossing coins at the table top, which would fall through the holes into a drawer below. If your coin made it into the frog's mouth you got to open the drawer and keep all the collected coins. Very difficult but hours of fun.

Wondering what the heck a gun in a horse bridle would be for? Also, I was in Annie Get Your Gun as Pawnee Bill in High School. Marshall Dillion’s costume is instantly recognizable! Michael Jackson was a cowboy?! “Rooster Cogburn” is the sequel to “True Grit”, my favorite John Wayne movie by far. Love that stagecoach! So what is your favorite western movie?

Adventures by George Today, I would vote for “The Searchers” as my favorite western: John Wayne, John Ford, Ward Bond, Natalie Wood, Hank Worden (as Mose), filmed in Monument Valley. It has always been one of my favorites. “Unforgiven” is also great, as is “Rooster Cogburn” and “True Grit”. So many great westerns, such a great and truly American genre, even the spaghetti variety.

Hyde Six I saw that movie in the theater when I was 5. They don't make em' like that anymore. It's not the best movie ever made...but when you have the nostalgia wrapped up in it...it kind of is. It seems nothing is filmed for pure entertainment value anymore. It seems everything exists as a platform to push an agenda laden political narrative. So sick of it. I miss the days when entertainment was just that...entertainment (and no more). But, I guess we have all of the old stuff to rememice and be whisked away by. Another one I saw in theater and have a lot of nostalgia wrapped up in is Crocodile Dundee. Ahhhhh...good times.
