For the record the breathe in the pad causing mold is just a myth. Several youtubers have cut them open after many seasons of use and found zero indication of mold. I just cut down my Nemo Tensor (too many patches) down to a shorty - it was 6 years old and the insides looked like I unpacked it yesterday. By the way if you were inclined, the cutting down and resealing is really easy. Cheers

My mom would spike my tea when I was five and sick/ couldn't sleep. Called it a hot todie/ something like that best sleep ever! Mom how's come tea makes me sleep so well? She'd say don't know. And she'd spike our ice cream with cream-d-minth, not just sip, slept good those nights to. I miss my mom. She passed away decade ago. Good memories thank you Claire for wonderful video

Howdee Claire, we just checked some of your back videos... Your production quality is terrific, we think better than stunning - you show the English countryside at its best and worst. Gimbals and drones are grand; they add so much. Old duffers like my generation (with our walking stick and bad hips) - Yes, we still do what we can, but now through your tales, many of us can also live your adventures. That keeps us all young. Keep safe, summer soon for us in Australia...

hey Claire great video , it`s always a good idea to check around you for small mini tracks before setting up camp , i suspect those deer knew you were there and were too nervous to pass by on their normal route that they would use every night , believe it or not they have pretty poor eyesight but are wired to hell with smell and hearing .Also , i believe the big growths on the tree behind you might have been the much sought after "chicken of the woods" which are delicious , i`ve just recieved the OEX leviathan 900 and i`m yet to use it in anger

Hi WildBeare, another brilliant video. Another tip for you, if in the summer you buy a car windscreen sun blocker, it will fit in your sleeping bag when the temperatures really drop. I have done that a few times in winter on Dartmoor and does make a difference. Also, i have before tied a web mesh of paracord above my tarp shelter to offer some protection against window makers (if you have no other option). Also, I love that you take your own food as I do. Some of these trek meals are very expensive. I enjoy my homemade spag bol or beef curry in vac sealed bags. Take care.

If you don't mind carrying the weight. A great bag with a really good temp rating is the gelert hibernate 400. It's comfort is - 7 and it's 25 quid. Weight 2.25 kg though. Another one is the Robens couloir 350. 700g fill weight, compresses down to nothing and weight 600g I think. All duck feather and really warm with it - 4 comfort rating. It costs about £199 but it's well worth it. Has a central zip as well so easy to open and close.

Sounds to me like a fox barking or 'shouting' at 12:34; they also screech, squeal and make other sounds, even 'baby like' whining sounds (quite distinct from domestic cats) etc depending on the time of year or if mum is taking the cubs foraging around etc. Here it is probably the vixen calling the dog fox perhaps, or the fox has sensed you there and is a bit miffed, they have quite a wide repertoire of sounds depending on what they are doing. And because you are in the woods in the early hours, sound is amplified at night of course. But really they are more frightened of you than you are of them; if you listen to the last sounds it is clearly moving away without making any other sound. If it was deer you might have heard maybe branches cracking etc as it moved off. I was camping in the state park in Northern Michigan some years back, canoeing, fly fishing, camping etc and have to say that the sound of Coyote's calling at night is really awesome; my US friend said they were Coyote's rather than Wolves as they have a different sound. Though I did kind of half wake up in the night to notice something sniffing and nosing around the end of the tent where my head was; then in the morning after being greeted by some local chipmunks who had been waiting patiently for scraps from our breakfast, we saw some tracks at the end of the tent which were identified as possums who are nocturnal and harmless and who look for scraps left by us humans as well. But the thing not to do in the rutting season (end of Sept-Oct approx) is to yawn, making a vocal 'yawwwing' sound as you do sometimes aha!, cos then you'd be 'bolving', which might very well attract a stag if he happened to be close by your tent aha! But he would soon let you know anyway by calling back to you. Anyway, dont lose any sleep, there's absolutely nothing to harm you animal wise in the UK really, unless you are walking across a field of heffers with calves and you happen to have a dog with you!

Great vid. Re Staggy Mac. I suggest you get a dog to take camping with you. Not one that will hunt the wildlife but a personal protective one that will stay close to camp. a fox Terrier . Pound for pound the most loyal fearless dog going.Or a Staffordshire Terroir. A Staffy is a seriously fearless fighter that will die to protect it's owner. They are lovely with other people and children, once introduced.. Both these breeds are at their best if socialised well and trained early when they are puppies. Safe camping!
