Iroh was supposed to be Firelord regardless of Ba Sing Se. It’s stated Azulon was in perfect health. Azulon also refused to give Ozai the throne over Iroh. By the last flashback Azulon, in perfect health dies over that same night he denied Ozai the throne and even though he wished Iroh remain next in line Ozai became Firelord. Also Ursa would have also had a funeral if she had died.

As I understand it, Iroh had been sieging Ba Sin Se for about 2 years now, and they were in a somewhat stalemate but making progress, however little to finally enter the city and "burn it to the ground". At some point, in that battle, Iroh's son gets killed and Iroh falls apart, he orders the retreat of the army and they leave with a defeat. The death of Iroh's son changed him forever.
@felipelara81
3 жыл бұрын
But still, him "losing" that battle didn't have anything to do with him losing the throne. When Azulon died, Ozai told everyone that his father's wish before death was to be succeeded by his second son (Ozai) instead of Iroh. Somehow no one questioned him, although this gets better explained moving forward.

He does get a lot, but the most by far is a stretch. Aang, Sokka and Katara, especially Aang and Sokka, go through at least as much development as Zuko, although Zuko's character arc might be more significant.

@@destroyerofnirn3537 Ok you have to be joking now. Toph get's almost no character development. Aang is a little goofy kid at the start of the show, who only wants to have fun and run away from his problems. He already has more character development than Toph in the 12 first episodes. His character development isn't as drastic as for example Zuko's, but he still changes slowly through out the show, as he obviously has the most character episodes, being the main character. Therefore, his development isn't as upfront, but he develops an insane amount from when he was in the iceberg, to when he defeats Ozai.

It seems that Iroh continued to be a General when he returned. That’s why in The Storm episode, he had to let Zuko into the war meeting. As a General, Iroh was already invited. Also, in the Winter Solstice episode (part 1), when Iroh was kidnapped from the hot spring by earthbenders, he mentioned that he laid siege to Ba Sing Se for 600 days, and that he and his men were tired. His son dying in one of the battles seems to be the final blow that made him decide to pack up and go home.

Great reaction again!! 💯 Fun fact: this is the only episode in the entire show that doesn’t feature Aang, Sokka, or Katara -Azula does lie but I feel she’s more manipulative than she is a liar. She uses manipulation for two distinct purposes: to instill fear in people and gain control/dominance over them… Does this sound like someone else we may know? How do you think she ended up acting like this at such a young age and still does at only the age of 14?? (cough *Ozai* cough 😳)…. By influence, clearly. It’s just like how Zuko threw the bread at the turtle duck and didn’t think it was a bad idea because he’s seen that’s “how Azula feeds turtle ducks” and he wants to be more like his fire bending prodigy sister. You can tell that pretty much Ozai raised Azula and Ursa raised Zuko… now do you understand some reasoning as to why Azula is so cold and a bit psychotic 😕 it’s tragic honestly -Also hope you guys caught baby Mai crushing on baby Zuko ☺️ Mai is such a great character (super underrated too), I hope you guys love her as well!

She only lies once in the entire show that I can tell. It's when she tells Zuko that their father wants him back. I love that detail because she actually can't look him in the eye when she says it. She's often being manipulative, controlling and/or cruel but she doesn't lie. Or she's saying what she believes to be true. Zuko in this episode is trying to convince himself that Azula is a liar because she told him their father planned to murder him and he really doesn't want to believe it.

Azulan didn't want ozai to be firelord, it's implied that ozai forged a letter/will after azulan died! Also Zukos mom (Ursa) didn't die, she left in a rush in the middle of the night/very early morning. That's why you see her wake zuko up before she leaves, she's saying goodbye. There's more to the story of his mother, why she ran away, and what happened to her after in the comics, they take place right after the ending of book three

I always think that the mother kind of pulled away after she noticed how Azula was like. I think she was rotten from the start but I wonder if the mother had forced more of her kindness and attention on her, if that could have changed something. But maybe Ozai's power over Azula was too strong... what ever it was, it's very sad.
@horsegirl19951

I don’t think so. Ozai gave up on Zuko since he didn’t have the personality or the abilities that Ozai wanted him to have. But since Azula is a prodigy, well that’s a different story. Ozai held all of the power in their family dynamic. If Ursa had forced her values on Azula, then Ozai would have done something to hurt Ursa or doubled his influence on Azula to negate Ursa’s influence.

I don't think anyone is simply born ROtten, she's a product of her time; It's too easy to simply call her bad egg, or sociopathe, she simply has Issues like Zuko imo. There's a lot of underlying reason why Ozai could have brought her this way, maybe he saw himself in her, being a 2Nd child more "talented than the official heir. We see in a lot of Episode that Azula is actually a lot like ZUko, she does everything she can to impress and get in her father favor, like when she renamed Omashu in his honnor. ZUko had the chance to get to know Iroh a little when he was young, I assume Azula didn't because Iroh was sent to war, given the present he sent her he doesn't seems to know her that well, and I can understand how she could see this present as insulting givent her abilities : Must have created a rift between the two when she needed an Iroh as much as Zuko.
