I am too lazy to spell his name, but the resurrected colonel dude guessed right away that Loak was Jake's son based on their similarities. I personally feel they aren't exactly the same. Loak has a lot of similarities to Jake's personality, but he has totally different motivations and world view. In my humble opinion anyways. For example, I would argue that Loak poses a lot more empathy than Jake does.

I honestly don't know how to feel about Jake's parenting. We can clearly see that before the humans came back he was a super loving and caring father, Lo'ak and Neteyam didn't feel so on edge or such a degree to be absolutely perfect; then the humans came and he became much more of an authoritarian parent with harsh training/punishments and held his sons to a very high standard. I understand why he did this, they were now living at war with the humans, so any miscommunication or goofing off could result in one of them, or the entire tribe dying. I just wish he still showed his son's that he was proud of how far they've come, because I honestly think that Neteyam didn't understand how much his dad really loved him, and I think Lo'ak will always have that fear lurking in the back of his mind that his father view's him as a disappointment. @@Still_theBaddest_561 Lima Charlie is a military code for "I understood / heard you" (Lima = Loud, Charlie = Clear). Since Jake was military and his sons are raised as soldiers (or warriors depending on how you wanna see it) he would use shorthand to communicate. It is all over the movie from the Sir (instead of dad) to the "send your traffic" which means "what do you have to say / what do you have to report".

That the reason I can't sit through the movie again, Jake seems to have such contempt for Lo'ak, I know he's not perfect, but he's still learning, makes me think if Lo'ak was killed and not his brother would they have shed any tears at all.

Yeah, like I get punishing your kids when it's needed and all- BUT. It seems like that instinct is overpowering his ability to show real affection and care for his sons. Like he demands that Neteyam be Lo'ak's keeper of sorts, since he's the older brother, and he also just assumes that Lo'ak's to blame whenever something goes wrong. He punished them during the raid before checking them for injuries, and isn't able to mince his harsh words around Lo'ak. Like Jesus dude, when's the last time they got told that he loved them?

I dont even think he wanted Lo'ak to be a man by harsh treatment. Jake just wanted to keep his family safe while having the RDA at his tail for the entire time. His methods weren't the best but Lo'ak was a troublemaker and the entire opposite of Neteyam who always followed the rules his father made. So Neteyam rarely got into trouble though he was reprimanded sometimes for not being able to stop Lo'ak from doing dumb stuff.

I sympathize with Lo’ak, not that i was ever a trouble maker, but it always felt like everything I did was wrong, even when it wasn’t. I always felt like my younger sister was loved and favored more by my parents, the only one who ever showed they loved me unconditionally was my grandma. Most of the time Lo’ak didn’t know he was doing wrong until after the fact. The only time he knew he was in the wrong was when they dropped down and grabbed guns in the beginning. He defended kiri and his Tulkan friend, and he tried to make his brother understand him, even though Neteyam already does. 🥹😢😭
